@QuentinMann
They are connected to the Fediverse and The Federation (two different things). But many instances probably have blocked their whole instance and it's surrounding affiliates.

We as users can do that on our own accounts - if you search for a user in any domain, go to their profile from here, by clicking the search results.

The dot menu "..." has the option of Blocking that whole domain.

I posted the steps and screenshots here yesterday for a user irked with porn domains.

@freemo Salmiak, savign a search for the rest of us.

"Salty liquorice, also known as salmiak or salmiakki (in Finland), is a variety of liquorice flavoured with ammonium chloride, common in the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, and northern Germany. Ammonium chloride gives salty liquorice an astringent, salty taste (hence the name), which has been described as "tongue-numbing" and "almost-stinging"."

File along with Marmite, Excentricities, Acquired Tastes. 😜

Working on replacing my desk with a bigger one. What a cabling hell

@quad Impressive numbers, the wireless link in the first post - mobile or home wifi?

Also impressive your desk picture, 4 monitors? Wow. :thumbsup_hmn_h2:

@QuentinMann

For years I avoided even using twitter since there was ample reporting of the conflict, trolling and attrition people were put thru.

A few months ago I started using an app that has their most active presence in TW, so I started going in and posting tips, suggestions and commenting in other users posts.

Still careful from getting flames.

Gap, which you mentioned, is pretty close to us, they switched to using Mastodon to avoid their custom mobile apps being delisted like happened i nthe past at both Apple and Google app stores.

Now, beign a Mastodon instance, their users could simply use a regular mastodon client - and that couldn't be blocked at store level.

I avoid the place as well, and they are at least in numbers the largest mastodon instance; used to show 1.5 million accounts a month ago, now reduced to just over a million, they probably did a clean up of inactive accounts.

I found a good article about the reaction to their move, and posted it here: qoto.org/@design_RG/1032303005

@n0btc

Big Tech doesn't stop Fakery and manipulation

"Companies like Facebook and Twitter are poorly policing automated bots and other methods for manipulating social media...

For €300, the researchers bought over 3,500 comments, 25,000 likes, 20,000 views and 5,000 followers...

After four weeks, about 80% of the fake clicks remained. And virtually all of the accounts remained active three weeks after researchers reported them"

Nolan's thoughts are interesting.

@mngrif Sleep well, that was a late session, eh.

Morning shift checking in...

@QuentinMann I have been so busy with reading, posting and investigating projects here in the Fedi that my news reading has fallen drastically.

The UK election is very important, it was dismaying that they went into it coerced by the PM who had a big lead on polls and wanted a crushing majority to rule unimpeded (same crap happens here in Canada, Proportional Representation is sorely needed to avoid PM dictatorships'').

I saw you mentioning and quoting a statement by the american Sec of State, which I found rather offensive -- on the open saying they would do all they could to change an election result?

These men have no shame.

@kosame

Fedilab supports a lot of different protocols and fediverse projects, which is interesting.

I have used and enjoyed the Lite version, available on F-Droid.

@freemo Good morning, hope the code writing goes well.

No snooping at cartoons while you are at it, lol.

I used to tel my students I was going to put a 3 or 4 foot high banner at the front of class, over blackboard. One word.

F O C U S.

Used to call and mention it as the 'F'word. they always had chuckles, by association with the other, bad F word.

@n0btc @QuentinMann Good morning, Steve.

Here is Home, didn't even look at the birdsite yet this morn. Don't receive much replies or feedback there, people seem to spend a lot of time following noise and fads, or fighting each other mercilessly. Both a waste and not for me.

Hope you enjoy your time here, I like it.

@QuentinMann Good morning, nice post with good points.

One thing to mention is that we have full text searching here at Qoto; I find it wonderful to retrieve things I posted and now need to refer to or mention. This is active here, but not everywhere, and in a very large instance it would be hard on the system.

We should be getting bookmarks, which will help with keeping tabs on good, interesting topics.

Instances running the GlitchSoc fork already have Bookmarks and some other interesting new features. It's the cutting edge of development, it seems.

I think we can try and complement Mastodon with one or more of the other fediverse projects. They sometimes offer different things, and we can search, mention and link back here.

Write.freely, Friendica are two that I have started looking at, and integrate well.
