@realcaseyrollins Use a VPN.

It will tunnel right thru firewalls. I found and am using a FREE one right now. protonvpn.com

Recommended for use specially if on public networks!

@realcaseyrollins Yeah, mine is like that too. Always a lot of traffic there, while here sometimes there's no post for a while.

@realcaseyrollins I do, I like to check all new local posts since the last time I was in, respond to notifications, greet new users, respond to new and interesting topics, etc.

It feels different, closer, looking at people we are more familiar with already. When things quiet down, I go to the Home feed to see what's passing by, respond to some interesting ones, maybe find new and interesting people to follow.

Another nice fediverse-enhancing habit that I enjoy is:

1) When you make a public post, use a hashtag.

2) Immediately click the hashtag.

3) Boost something cool and recent from that hashtag.

#mastodon #meta

If for some reason the boost button doesn't work:

1) Right-click on the timestamp.

2) Click "copy link address" or similar.

3) Paste the URL into your Mastodon search box and press enter.

4) Boost.

#mastodon #meta

This helps because everything you boost gets added to your own instance's federated timeline, and the federated timelines of everyone who follows you.

More importantly, it also adds those boosts to hashtag searches, making it easier for people to find posts about their interests using hashtag searches on their own instances.

Spreading the good stuff around the fediverse helps everything to interlink and keeps the timelines and Home feeds organically full, varied and busy.

Mastodon is prone to bubbles.

When you look for new people to follow you check the public timelines, which by design mostly contains people already followed by people on your instance. It's hard to break out of that.

Here's what you do.

1) Go to mastodon.social/tags/YourTagHe but change the last bit to a hashtag of your choosing.

2) Click boost on all the cool stuff.

Also, use hashtags in your own posts and boost cool stuff with gay abandon!

@roadkillcobra@radical.town LOL.... 😜

I saw a post yesterday about using a big instance to do just that.

@roadkillcobra@radical.town Ain't that spamming your own followers? Boosting a post will just make sure they see a notification of it. Which they already got, if they follow you.

Hyperboost, maybe, get an account at a large instance, get many followers and then, boost this account's post with that new one.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Six people, including a police officer and three bystanders, were killed in a furious gunbattle Tuesday that filled the streets of Jersey City with the sound of heavy fire for hours, authorities said. "
