read about twitter aspiration to federate. BlueSky, pie in the sky?

As a big advocate of the to get out of the walled gardens like Facebook, and ironically Twitter, I think it'd do a lot of good for them to be involved in ActivityPub (the W3C standardized lingua franca of the federated social media platforms).…

@Massick Oh, and I noticed you are on Friendica from your profile link. Got an account there, same instance.

@Massick Oh, man, I am sorry to hear that. 😔

Difficult indeed.

Are you able to ping the Net at large from your site?

@freemo Clothes, do them by hand, except bedding.

Cycling jerseys, expensive, that's how I got into hand washing. Wife used to damage assorted clothing with her laundry runs.

Now I enjoy clean and air dried. Better yet it sun dried when warm out.

@freemo Laundray Vous?

LOL.... I find Lawn mowing much worse, tbh.

@freemo Thank you!

I have looked and found a NY Times (ran from gab, argh), a partially working The Economist, and no SciAm.

Would have to learn how to do it, am game.

@freemo there are some interesting media presences there, it would be nice to bridge them over here. Scientific American, The Economist, New Yorker, The Atlantic for me, all favourites.

Along with The Guardian, NY Times.

Can we have Botz ???

@Massick Depends on how you define "it's working." 😛

The test did work. But the network, not, can't find a path to google dns servers (the quad 8 ip string).

On my case, I got a blip in service, and ping was a good tool to diagnose - what is wrong, where.

With cable modem, router, wired network segment leading to wireless access point upstairs, then wireless link to my machine here, lots of possible points of failure.

Ah, plus remote VPN service too.

First step, plugged net cable into rj45, then ping. Fail as shown mid screen in my test.

Some more tinkering and I got it back as shown on the lower part, success on ping quad 8. Yey. 🎆

All while annoyed for being disconnected from various simultaneous conversations. LOL. All good now.

problems

Depressing how little response I get to posts at birdsite. No wonder I never enjoyed it much there.

Here [mastodon home instance] in an hour I have more interaction than there in a day, at least. And the quality, no comparison.

Keep cool, 💓

@freemo @kosame

Gentoo was popular many years ago, haven't heard about it more recently, but I don't follow closely.

I think my son's development work is all on Ubuntu, a Dell XPS 13 which is neat but too small a screen in my opinion.

@tacumi

@jahnke Wonderful news, MR. I am an U.S.P. alumnus btw. (FAU)

@kosame Nice, thanks Kosako. Do you use it?

I do have a good case for o.s. replacement too in my HTPC. Vintage HP workstation, dual Xeon processors, just a powerhouse in its days.

That would need a less current version, but it should run well. Love vintage, quality hardware, and keep them all.

❤️

@freemo @tacumi

@freemo @tacumi LOL, thank you. 😝

There is hope, I have tried Linux at various times, but am just much more productive on an environment where I have a good collection of tools ready.

It's hard to switch and feel like a newbie, have to look for all the essentials again.

But I have unallocated disk space in various of my laptops for that reason; can be added if desired.

Which version would be good for someone new (not Arch from what I hear. I think my son used it many years ago, and everything had to be compiled from source, that's too radical for me).

Mint?

@freemo Yes, I see it the same way too. Sadly, as the young people take a raw deal.

For a young person, to lose their European Union citizenship and the freedom of movement, residence it allows is a true tragedy.

If I lived in the UK, I would be moving out, if not already abroad.
