Oh, we have that, see also: mastodon.technology 😜

...and posting inane single line crap. I think having mastodon admin people who grew up on Twitter is a REAL problem, they got conditioned to the 140 chars restriction, narrow brains now.

That instance is all like that. A huge user number, but I didn't see much real content.

The mastodon UI in Pleroma is indeed better than in MOST mastodon instances -- as it's based on Glitch Social, which is the cutting edge of Mastodon development.

Supporting things like:

- Local-ONLY, non-Federating toots.

- Text formatting options for toot editor, including both BBcode and MarkDown

and others. Been a while since I last visited Hackers.town, which is GS instance.

@freemo

Strutting small instance self-important sysadmins are a problem. Specially when they go about FediBlock tagging . Annoyance.

As I Blogged about before, the Fediverse reminds me so much of Fidonet.

We had some similar ego clashes, local network insurrections and more. Great fun. 😛

I would think an older machine or laptop is less grief too.

@p you're welcome to make an account any time on this piece of shit raspberry to get the real poverty experience. 2GB RAM, 64GB uSD. roar.

Maybe someday will support text formatting like and already do?

It improves not only visual impact, but communication of ideas by judicious use of as desired.

For me, it's an important advantage. Both alternative platforms support Markdown as a user option in Toot editor. Please? And thank you.

@freemo
Facebook users on Mastodon, won't be happy at all.

They like Feed Me, the algos showing their familiar things.

Best chance for this kind of users, and fully federated, working, just needs some UI polish -- Friendica.

@realcaseyrollins@mstdn.social @moonman See this -- the same post I made here about the Peroma various FE options, but written and formatted at Extended Reality Pleroma.

@moonman
I agree -- it's good for him to test and support HUGE scale, and dream of migrating the masses.

But it's a shitty user experience there, similar to Twitter. non stop people shouting for attention, mostly being ignored.

@realcaseyrollins@mstdn.social @freemo

@freemo
Yes, I have used Halcyon, and the nicer Pinafore, which I like best of those FE options --- the Mastodo UI is very slow in comparison.

Pinafore dropped in my love since I have been using extreme AWI implementations - the full screen area is allocated to content, but not as Eugen prescribes.

I proposed and showed some ideas, but he's got too much on his plate, and this is not a concern for him.

I had planned to create Blog posts on comparing those, and located various instances of Pinafore to list too -- as the only thing better than one Pinafore client is various one, running in other tabs; one in each of those hosts, so you have Pina Todon, Pinafore.social, and others.

BUT... AWI is essential for me, and Pina's author won't go for multiple display columns, I proposed.

Pleroma has a very interesting attitude - it divides things into Back End, and Front End.

There's Two separate development teams, one for each area. Their work interconnects, but people stay where their expertise is.

There are various options of Front Ends, which any user can choose from, in a Pleroma instance -- they can use Mastodon Front End (FE for short), which is actually even BETTER than vanilla masto instances -- as it's Glitch Soc based.

Or they can use Pleroma FE, or the Best one (I haven't tried) that @a1batross has at his instance.

Pleroma FE here : expired.mentality.rip/main/all

Mastodon FE here : expired.mentality.rip/web

Bloat FE here : bloated.mentality.rip/

If I was typing this comment there, I could use Bold, Italic, Bulleted list, and more MarkDown formatting with ease.

The status was here : mastodon.echoz.io/@chris/10416

And indeed the huge instances like m.s. are way apart in their operation conditions than the smaller and medium ones.

Eugen wants it to become an alternative to corp social networks, so that makes sense. Imagine the complexity with millions of users daily.

@freemo @realcaseyrollins@mstdn.social @moonman That would be interesting. 😃

But it would fork the database - at a certain moment in time; new posts staying in each platform, not added to the other, unless more magic was added.

@realcaseyrollins@mstdn.social @freemo @moonman We had a chat here yesterday, and the poster is running a Single user instance, on mastodon software.

Four cores in a vM dedicated to this beast. Argh!

It seems to be a ball of Spaghetti, from my un-educated expectator, User view. He posted Stats and it showed quite a bit of resource use, for that single user.

Some people run Pleroma on a Raspberry Pi, although I would rather use an older PC box.

@realcaseyrollins@mstdn.social @freemo @moonman
I would LOVE that, but didn't think you would ever consider it.

Would be my choice for a small or personal instance of my own. Superior in MANY Freaking ways.

@koyu Just visited and it looks like it WORKED! Congrats! 😃

koyu.space/about/more

@freemo, looks like GlitchSoc is up to 3.1.3 now.

@koyu Plus, moving to Glitch Soc, an advancement compared to Vanilla mastodon.

GS is nice.

@koyu Major step, no doubt. Hope it goes well.

Thank you for putting in the effort and providing the service, Leonie!

is way ahead in UI and Features, Mastodon pales in comparison.

Resources use, much less.

Easier installation and maintenance. Better new admin installation guides.
