@freemo @koyu @koyu@koyu.space

Good to hear a resounding endorsement like that, specially from a colleague admin. I saw the posts here earlier by Koyu, at the time mentioning they were working on migration to Glitch Social.

A 17 GB database conversion, with all the instance life, a hair raising experience. (although they had separate backups, but it's downtime until this is completed. Nerve wracking).

The instance was up and running when I read the post and went to visit, so I think they have completed the big job and are now resting. 😺

Sounds like a great place. Thank you for confirming my impression.

I had to go take a look.

An instance admin with 1,200 posts only, that sounds low for someone in a leadership position, and there since Jan 2018. I have been here for 6 months, and have 5,000+ posts.

Some pretty graphics, but I think she has varied interests (as shown by links in profile) and the mastodon instance is just one of many.

Not judging the instance, but just some comments from first look. I had not heard about it till now.

@resynth1943@banana.dog Thanks for the suggestions -- I am thinking of a new series of ideas for Blog posts, and one of them will be regarding my own Blog.

I use this account's full name as my signature at the end of each post, and prepare and post a nice announcement for each new post.

From here, mostly -- although I might need to consider a new and Less fediblocked place to post these announcements.

A lot of people got mad with Qoto, for various reasons, which as far as I know have no merit - the last wave of outrage was when Qoto added some new features, UNIQUE in mastodon instances, so we have indeed a Qoto Fork now; @freemo brought code over from the Japanese Misskey instances, and added these after adapting it to this side of the Pacific, for Masto instances.

People got mad at some of them, and a wave of conflict followed. We noticed, responded, but got blocked by some of them.

To reach the widest possible distribution, a publisher needs a wide channel, so my thinking about my blog announcements relocation possibly.

@resynth1943@banana.dog That, not having the STUPID default 500 characters limit is GOOD on my books.

I have raised the flag and went out to push for more, but a lot of the admin people falt out refuse to consider it. Reasons ?

- 500 chars is hard coded into the mastodon source, and changing to a different value is NOT trivial -- this shows up in various source files, and it needs to be hand edited anytime there's an update or upgraded version of Mastodon.

- The Pleroma lead developer posted an issue on masto github, requesting that this be changed, to post to a single location, in a config file like any sane person would think it should, right? Eugen refused, and closed the issue. 😞

- a lot of those guys were Twitter users for years, and are used to the ridiculous one line tweet style, I find that inane and despicable. But their instance, their rules. I move on, find a better one.

Really there's no reason to limit it so low.

But Eugen's reasoning is mostly aesthetic -- he argued that LOONG posts would pollute the look of a Mastodon instance Feed, obscuring other content.

Silly thing, but he's the de facto dictator on masto dev, so... 😜

But I can always protest. 😉

But wait -- is it Important which instance you are in?

Yes, I think so - and wrote a nice Blog page about it.

QOTO is a nice one (the reason you see me posting from here, and being a volunteer on staff).

But I am a traveler by nature, and love to explore other Cultures.

So, I do wander on other lands and Caravanserais.

** Instance Recommendation : **

I don't have an account there, and am not familiar with it, other than reading their About pages, and seeing the admin successfully take on a migration from plain main stream Mastodon to a newer and more Feature rich Glitch Soc instance.

This migration seems complete, the site is up and responsive, so consider Koyu.Space -- even the name is cool. :)

Plus -- Important for me, European located, EU Hosted and under EU privacy and other laws.

(Not the usual US ones)

Not only they have a mastodon instance, but other services as well; see their uptime here:

@realcaseyrollins@mstdn.social a1batross is an active and competent admin, glad to see the client growing too.

@realcaseyrollins@mstdn.social I think that might get him some Hatye Mail from FediBlock Police. LOL....

The most important feature of Husky, as far as I know (I am not really a mobile user, desktop/laptop mostly) is this Enhanced Text natively supported .

No other Client cared to support these features that GlitchSoc and Pleroma instances have had for a while now.

Back to the supporting all instances -- honestly, I have seen posts from foreign language Translators, who were dropping their work in Tusky because of something like this (he blocks some, Gab and friends, etc)

...and what does the Enhanced, Rich Text post looks like here in a Mastodon instance?

if you Copy the post link, and Search for it inside mastodon, it will open the remote post, and display it within Mastodon's own client environment.

I am attaching a Screenshot of the Nice Pleroma created post, MarkDown formatted (as show in the previous screenshot) -- and how it looks here.

Plain Jane. Pitiful, but ** NOTHING Broken **... 😛

Highlighting something which I think is absolutely UNIQUE in Husky, compared to other mobile clients :

- Markdown support with WYSIWYG editor

So people whose accounts are in instances running Progressive, more Advanced software, with support Pleroma's Mastodon API extensions (at this point Pleroma and Glitch Social instances) CAN use either:

* Plain Text.
* OR enhanced text formatting, via either MarkDown or BBcode tags.

These are supported in the Client, in a GUI environment, and will display the Rich Formatted text in the instances all over the Fediverse which support this feature.

That does NOT break or mangle the toot content in plan-vanilla Mastodon ones (majority at the moment), which simply STRIPS the format tags and display plain text version.

Examples of a post shown in screenshots at a Pleroma instance and in a mastodon timeline are attached.

I originally wrote the toot here at Qoto, then copied it into a Pleroma account to show the possibilities -- I find the image should give a good idea on how much BETTER it can look with a little added Formatting love.

** Ever heard about Husky ?

* Husky is a fork of Tusky that aimed to support Pleroma's Mastodon API extensions and some ideas that I may come up with.

* Tusky is quote, unquote,

... a beautiful Android client for [Mastodon](github.com/tootsuite/mastodon). Mastodon is an ActivityPub federated social network. That means no single entity controls the whole network, rather, like e-mail, volunteers and organisations operate their own independent servers, users from which can all interact with each other seamlessly.

* Main changes so far

- Emoji reactions support
- Removed attachment limits for Pleroma
- Support for attaching anything on Pleroma
- Support for changing OAuth application name
- Markdown support with WYSIWYG editor
- Support for extended accounts fields, so you can see who is admin or moderator on your instance
- Subscribing support to annoy you with incoming notification from every post
- Support for seen notifications to less annoy you
- “Reply to” feature that allows to jump to replied status, useful for hellthreading ;)

...and much more. See the Husky home at : git.mentality.rip/FWGS/Husky

@freemo

Those days the images require a DVD disc, no?

Which version would you suggest? (not Arch Linux, please)

@benis @realcaseyrollins@mstdn.social @moonman

@benis

I should mention having been an Irix user a looong time ago. 😛

And loving it, as a user only, we never touched the boxen.

My blog page tells some more : write.tedomum.net/rgx/joining-

@realcaseyrollins@mstdn.social @freemo @moonman

@freemo

I downloaded and installed it various times. First time as an all nighter, dial-up session, for the 1.44 MB disk images. 😃

Later CDs, what a difference. Bought my son Mandrake 7 boxed as a gift, and he loved it, works on linux everyday, he's Comp Sci grad. Good choice of gift, I will say. 😉

But I always feel unproductive, noobyish and missing all the tools I have on hand in Windows, so it soon gets dropped. Would need a spare system just for learning and leaving my work machine intact.

@benis @realcaseyrollins@mstdn.social @moonman

@Sphinx Only when cursor is over it, as I set that option. But it's a gif yes.

@freemo

Thank you! For you it would be easy, yes, as you already are comfortable in both the OS and with similar software, mastodon.

Might be a good chance to see how real the comments I heard about the Pleroma installation guides being friendly are. I have spare hardware, an empty new SSD, and it's just a question of deciding to jump into this for fun some week.

But it would start with a linux learning curve, the underlining foundation to Pleroma. WE will see - I have been thinking of starting some writing again, that would be nice.

@benis @realcaseyrollins@mstdn.social @moonman

@resynth1943@banana.dog No, I haven't. To be completely honest, I am not familiar with the github and how the suggestions, comments and requests there work.

Hence, this, as public relations effort to show some interest, maybe gain support if people agree it is a valuable feature.

@benis

someday I should try and get it running, got some spare older laptops which would work well. Just should start with the linux part first, then progress to Pleroma after.

@freemo

Yes, indeed. Humbleness is a sign of wisdom.
