That must have been nice, indeed.

I visited Washington only once, and wanted to visit the Smithsonian museums, but the costs of accomodation in the city drove me off. Back to the C&O Canal trail which I had taken to ride there, bicycle touring.

free camping on the trail for hikers and bikers, can't beat that. A great touring route for cycling.

@Massick There are too many distractions nowadays, along with huge access to information.

People getting lost and not focusing is a real problem. A serious one.

Sometimes disconnecting is the best thing to do, although I already don't have TV in my life, other than BBC documentaries and news that I haven't even been watching lately.

And thankfully I remembered where that BLESSED Mute Conversation control was.

It showed the account right after I created it and made a first test post. It hasn't changed since, I was assuming it was broken at the other end. Looks like not.

I had tried other Write.freely instances and gave up on them since I dd not see them in Fedi space; maybe they were working after all.

@jahnke Architecture and Urban Planning, with a nice shake of Industrial Design from my own enjoyment of building things, furniture, bicycles and such.

USP was wonderful. I have also attended another Uni here in Canada, for Technological Education certification.

@Massick I attended a prestigious public uni in home country, USP, and had no tutition.

But housing was not provided, the Military government at the time saw Uni student body as a subversives nest, and blocked the Uni from operating their existing campus residence buldings.

I struggled as well, walked, took long bus rides to go from school to home or work. Nothing came easy for me too it seems.

Am in peace now, and appreciating it, thankfully.

An update, happy now!

Added all my following list to another new instance account just now, and that one shows my posts in the Blog account at Tedomum.net as it should.

Saves me having to write to them and inquire.

Somehow QOTO only shows 1 post, which is off by 5 currently.

@Massick Ah, ok, now it's clear.

The Universities here in Canada are all paid for, there's no free tuition anywhere (except if you qualify for some special bursary or athletic freebie).

The cost varies, higher prestige Uni costs more. Two of my son's examples;

- one took Comp Sci degree from a local uni; no room and boarding costs, as he stayed home, as he wanted to. Tuition for him, a few years, maybe 10 years back, was about $5000 CAD, circa 4,000 USD, per year. Half of that per semester.

- second attended prestiguious Uni, away from home. Costly room and board, at time was $2200 CAD when he started. Plus another $3200 or so for his first semester.

He was in Engineering programme, and since that is seen as a professional path career, tutition is higher than Humanities or arts.

First year cost for him, 10 years ago, was about $18,000 CAD, or 14,000 USD more or less. I was shocked.

Middle class families save for years to fund Uni education, but this is nothing if compared to American college costs - often USD$40,000 or more per year.

@Massick I cna understand you, and if you feel the need to use occassional Spanish phrases, I can follow too. Just not local slang. 😜

(we need to work on documenting and evaluating instances, to help users find better matches - and avoid annoying current user bases)

Politicians, I don't want to see our feedlines become another noise channel like TV for their incessant effort to attract attention and support (apparently essential to do anything, right or wrong).

So, see no need for them here.

We need new networks and new leaderships. They can develop here.

This is much like earlier networks I participated in, and the earlier internet, up to 1996 or so, before commercial usage washed over.
