My personal Blog announcements soon moving to a new account and home.

Tired of Blocking and people not seeing posts, due to them.

Plus -- formatting is supported at my new Pleroma account.

@rgx

This looks nice...

A number of Pleroma instances are perceived as a bit 'Shaddy' and that can be a problem.

Looking at the Pleroma instances list and this one seems a nice one. Visiting soon.

@rgx is up and running. Thank you.

@freemo Probably wouldn't need to upgrade the hardware if you were running Pleroma. :cirnoThink:

There is so much History there that I have no idea.

I think I will certainly move my blog work elsewhere, currently thinking about the better place to do it.

And those that know my public persona here are not surprised when I report on Good Instances, or suggest features to enrich Fediverse.

[[ This Topic Now Moved to a Blog post platform ]]

And Here is another Proof that Instances DO Matter.

Same post as above, lightly touched with goodness. At a GlitchSocial instance, not a mastodon one which is still stuck in 500 character toot limit and other quirks of the project leaders preference.

Screenshot, judge for yourself. Does it matter? does it look better, worse?

It is an Option, and currently only people in leading edge Fedi can see this natively. A major flag and issue for me, as you might notice? love and this helps. , , better and is on these other projects -- GS and Pleroma at the moment, that I know off.

There might be others; Friendica is intriguingly RICH in features, text formatting there is a non-issue. As is Editing a post. Not for ex-twitter people, apparently.

* Is it Important, which Instance you are in ? *

Once again I had an enjoyable conversation, earlier today. Achso was there, and we continued a conversation from a day before. We discussed different things, and specially how choosing an instance to fit your needs and preferences is important.

My thoughts on the matter, and a detailed list of some instances I frequent.

On today's web magazine, live at : write.tedomum.net/rgx/is-it-im

[ a repost of my original Jan 4, 2020 Blog post announcement -- relevant on this day where I am mentioning other instances worth of consideration and instance listing sites.

More is better. Less is Twitter, FB. Don't need or want that

@emuz Nice work. Success to you and the instance. Curiosity -- what's the story about the "kafuka" name?

#RetroComputing Heaven 😍

Interesting bit to watch. Gab head techies considering saying screw-it to Fediverse content.

That could improve the climate in the rest of the Fediverse, avoid nastiness by association like some instances suffer (not by supporting Gab, but simply by defending open network connection unless there's a reason for limiting or denying it)

A nice feature set.

And a modern GlitchSocial instance has added features compared to the vanillla Mastodon ones.

Rich Text -- Markdown and BBcode, is built right in. I love that. Heads up for what looks like an interesting place for an account.

A more recent Issue posted at the project's Git, included a proposal for Quote Block -- which is part of what others already have, and do a lot for Forum discussions, for example.

"When responding to a toot, allow to put context (quote/reply) #13876"

From this topic, ThibG linked to the older discussion (lively topic, link in the above toot). Screenshot of this older topic included here.

Just found a lively discussion. Although dated from April 2019, this is indeed being discussed at the top levels of Mastodon project.

A long topic, including the lead developer's resistance to the request for support (WITH Code included) of Rich Text options ( and others, as already supported in GlitchSocial, Pleroma and other platforms).

Eugen is not for it (or we would already have it). But there IS a yearning for more than the Sh1tty plain text. From people who write toots longer than the one liners favoured by old time ex-Twitter heads.

Discussion at : github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/

Saving this as a place marker, for later reading deeper into it.

needs Better text formatting options. Get on with the times, will we?

Hello everyone.

There is a non-zero possibility that major US cities are about to get their civilian communications infrastructure turned off or significantly restricted. If this idea scares you too much to contemplate, please move on. I can't think of how to CW this appropriately, so my apologies for your anxiety, but this is important to my social circle, so I'll continue.

If you're worried about COVID-19 but you still want to make a positive impact, you can help to prepare for this eventuality.

The best way I can think to fight against comms being shut down is to use Dual Power Structure thinking: let's make our own network. This is not as unrealistic as it sounds. HAM Radio folks are already doing it. The software is open source, and runs on a massive number of surplus hardware.

Check out the AREDEN Compatibility Matrix: arednmesh.org/content/supporte

If you work your local network and make a few fast Amazon orders, I bet you'd have several square miles of coverage ready to go in an instant, and ready to backhaul internet to people who need it to protest.

You might say, "But Endomain, I'm not a licensed ham operator!"

I am not telling you what to do, but a lot of folks are breaking a lot of laws just by protesting. Folks are rightfully afraid of COVID-19 and that's fair, but you know what's socially distant? Rooftops of boarded up or looted buildings that are empty but still have electricity. Maybe this is a risk folks, licensed or not, are willing to take to take to keep comms up for protesters.

uspol, internet shutdown, $BIGCORP

I think that we're probably going to see the federal government order the shutdown of the internet and cell network in specific places.

Which means a few $BIGCORPs (namely Google, Amazon, Verizon, AT&T, Xfinity) are going to have to to decide if their dedicated backhaul networks and dedicated edge networks will comply with these orders.

The telcos have mostly all proven how much they love the taste of boot leather, so they'll fold. But this won't actually shut off Google and Amazon services and hosted properties in some places due to how this all is architected.

That's where the really wild legal battle will explode, I suspect. Because the current DOJ has given these companies 0 reason to cooperate, and if these companies wanted they could deploy free wifi for their products and it'd be a MASSIVE and actually most legal PR play that would further ingratiate their notion reliability with the US and global consumer.

Both Google and Amazon both want to ingratiate themselves with the EU going forward for GDPR exceptions. Defying the American government in court if it means holding to EU-stated values (hypocritical as this is) has material value for them.

So this is about to get VERY spicy.
