@ofbooksandbikes thank you so much! Right now I’m reading Meet Me in the Bathroom by Lizzy Goodman. It is first hand accounts of the music scene in New York for the early 2000s. The movie starts streaming on the 25th I think. Pretty interesting and I want to see if the audiobook has the artists voices.

My wife and I saw this juvenile water moccasin on a morning walk with our dogs earlier this year just before hurricane Ian.

This song is called Firesuite and it’s by Doves.
Back when Bonobo’s first albums were coming out I was getting into downtempo eclectic music. This song was mythic in its aesthetic and I just recently rediscovered it this year. Unlike Doves later work this is quite the classic.

I'm a -- baritone.

I've decided to with again next summer. This will be my third time: a week of Haydn and Dillworth at UW in Seattle in June.

You're expected to know the music when you show up. There's a week of rehearsal and classes, then a performance with an orchestra.

It's a little expensive, but I really enjoy spending a solid week doing intensive music.

@Rivikah you still got a front row seat to a very important event in modern history. You’ve got a unique perspective on what happened and that can be very valuable.
Surreal yet useful.

Anyone wanting to learn the basics of particle and engineering might be interested in this book written by my colleagues at the Cockcroft Institute: "The Science and Technology of Particle Accelerators", by R. Appleby, G. Burt, J. Clarke and H. Owen (Taylor and Francis, 2020). This is available as a free download (open-access) from

@flsounds I was not!

My employer was not hiring me in that capacity, so I was mostly just watching people in my former career try to do things way faster than they can really be done well and trying to decide if I felt left out or grateful to avoid the stress.

It was surreal.

@Anabelthe1st I think the no ads thing is great here. Also everyone here seems authentic and more enthusiastic about making a good first impression in order to make this work. Very exciting. I think it’s the people and not celebrity status that make a community. Everyone is starting over and learning something new which is humbling and fosters a sense of trust out of need. We’re on the precipice of something great I think.

There’s just something about starting over. Removing the noise. Who do you want to keep in touch with? What feels like community to you??
