This list of #journalists on Mastodon has absolutely taken on a life of its own. 🔥
It's now grown to over 540 journalists and shows no signs of stopping. I do quality control and check it every day to clean up.

Today’s musical offering is non other than “Synthesizer” by Electric Six.
In highschool I bemused myself with songs like “Gay Bar” and “Danger, High Voltage!”
This song though I found only but a few months ago and it is one of my all time favorites right now. It’s so damn catchy. The hooks are there. Very fun song.
Expect some of the following to happen in the coming weeks:
- celebrities with huge follower counts pushing tiny community-run servers to their knees
- instance admin burnout; shutting down of servers
- big new servers that don't "vibe" with common rules or culture being widely defederated
- some notable account violating an instance code of conduct and throwing a fit
- lots of people ragequitting Mastodon for one reason or another
- etc.
It'll be a rough ride. Patience and strength, all.
#introduction. I teach environmental and natural resources law at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, USA. I am a climate and water justice advocate and activist. My favorite activity is kayaking with my favorite companion Dash alongside. The young woman from the class of 2035 is to remind me of the lives that will just be launched by the time we should have dramatically reduced GHG emissions. The actions we take shape their future.
Getting started in the #fediverse reminded me a lot about how it felt when I finally got my first Raspberry Pi up and running 🤓
A word of advice from others - since the servers communicate, you don't necessarily have to sign up on one of the busier ones. For instance, I chose one that seems more to align with my interests, but if you search (for instance) for hashtag #TwitterMigration you will be able to see very helpful posts.
Did you know that if you capitalize each word in a multi-word hashtag, #ScreenReaders can read them as words, but if you leave them lowercase, they can't? Well, now you know! So, for #accessibility, please capitalize words when there's more than one in a hashtag.
A few tips for newcomers, as I have learned myself in the past week...
#AltText Descriptions: Please use them, many folks here depend upon them and have been using them for years before we all arrived.
#CamelCase: when you use hashtags, use Camel Case if you have more than one word: #WelcomeToMastodon is easier to read than #welcometomastodon - so do that. Use WAAAAY more hashtags than you are used to on Twitter. Mastodon is hashtag dependent.
#ContentWarning: If you are posting something that might even in the slightest trigger another person, use the Content Warning (CW) option that you can toggle on at the bottom of the toot window. It's polite here. People can choose how they want to view and interact. Use CW more than you are used to on Twitter.
#Diversity: a few people have commented, "lots of white men here!" Well, ok, but you can also find each other by using hashtags like #WomenInStem #BlackMastodon and many more including my favorites that I started up: #Desi and #MixedDesi (i.e. me). Start your own if you don't see yourself represented, so others can find you, too.
#DMs: are under the globe option in the toot window for privacy setting and they appear in your full list / feed of notifications (don't freak out at that).
#Donations: This is all run by volunteers. Make a donation. Click on the "about this server" at the bottom of your screen (might appear in a different location than on mine) and find out who is running your server and how to make a donation. And thank them!
#Introductions: Please write a friendly intro and use the hashtag #introduction so people can learn about you. Be interested in others. Grow your community through daily, friendly interaction.
Have fun! This is like a big global cafe with many tables to sit at, and conversations to be had.
Lots more tips linked in my feed. Welcome!
Because I'm on a new instance and I don't know if my pinned posts will transfer, let me introduce myself again.
Hi. I'm a #screenwriter who wrote a thing you saw (and some stuff you didn't), a creator, a complainer, a resister, a progressive. If you like me over there, please follow me here. Or if you've never heard of me, consider following me. I promise to try to make you laugh at least tickle your brain.

"We can all help. Most wildlife is destroyed by land being cleared for cattle, soy, palm oil, timber and leather. Most of us consume these products every day, with palm oil being found in many foods and toiletries. Choosing only sustainable options helps, as does eating less meat, particularly beef, which has an outsized environmental hoofprint."
@ofbooksandbikes it probably should for me but I feel like it was just before my time since I was in middle school/ highschool then. I feel like a middle child in the music world, but in great company. Adele comes to mind because she names albums after her age. Artists like Charlie XCX and others came out after “my time”. I just want to experience as much live music as I can now even though I’m in my mid thirties. I don’t think it’s ever to late but I don’t want to waste any more time.
…Here to keep up with the times, meet creatives, and share music…
I’m a creative layman who loves music. I live in the Florida Panhandle and work retail.
