@ech

By the look of it most of their users are never aware of the abuse until they are, then when they complain they get suspended.

When you have an echo chamber one of the problems is you dont know your in a echo chamber because any evidence of the reality you are in is so highly censored you hav eno way to know till its too late.

@freemo @wild1145@universeodon.com @wild1145@mastodonapp.uk I wonder if people unwittingly join instances like that or mstdn.social, get bored by the weird performative echo chamber, then write off Mastodon and go back to Twitter or whatever.

@bonifartius

All moderation behaviors, both abuse and due dilligance over their own users, as well as their federation decisions.

@WhiteCatTamer

I will happily grab for any rope, as I point out the rope is the lesser evil over the quicksand and I agree, you should always pick the lesser evil.

Now if I get thrown 3 ropes and one is laced with poison (democrats) I will grab one of the other two ropes, because again, I will pick the lesser evil.

@lauren

@lauren

> Please don't waste my time. You vote for the lessor of evils who can win.

As long as everyone is ethical enough to vote for the lesser evil collectively then of course they can win. After all the main 2 parties have switched hands 8 times in USA history.

In fact the only way people could possibly vote for the lesser of evils and not win is if the majority of people vote for the greater of evils.

@bonifartius

We arent quite ready to go public with it yet but the , the federation of servers that I started that is basically against abusive moderation practices like this... this is kinda the point.

We are working on curating evidence regarding moderation practices and creating two lists 1) servers with good moderation practices (no reports with evidence of abusive moderation) and 2) a list of servers with known bad moderation practices.

This way people can use it to select servers where they know they wont be supporting abusive practices against its own users or regarding federation.

Because when we tried this in the past the servers accused of course tried to retaliate we are making sure when the list is released the m evidence collected is absolutely massive and in case they try to attack us again this time we are armed with the evidence.

@wild1145@universeodon.com @wild1145@mastodonapp.uk

@lauren

Agreed, all elections are about selecting the lesser of all the evils presented, those evils being : Republican (extremely evil), democrat (extremely evil), Libertarian (a little bit evil), Green party (a tiny bit evil), third party (varies).

So remember, if you care about picking the lesser evil, make sure you never vote democrat or republican, pick any of the many lesser evils on the table, but not those two greater evils.

@marathon@kolektiva.social

Ahh those were the days!

@freemo are you sure it's worth the trouble and your nerves? these blocklists are their own demise after all. as you wrote, those instances tend to bleed users ;)

@bonifartius

Don't worry, I am not curating a block list. I am curating a list of universeodon users who have come forward about the negligent moderation practices on the server. I then plan to dump the evidence collected from dozens of users in a public post (and probably boost it from my universeodon account) as well as over on mastodonapp.uk just to make sure people are aware of the abuse.

If people want to block his servers or not or even if their users just want to migrate away, thats up to them. This guy is just sitting here lying about all these threads blowing up where he is getting called out and since he is doubling down I want to make sure the evidence is in the public space and that when people search for the server its one of the first google hits.

Have you considered instead of being lazy and trying to avoid moderating your server properly and literally admitting to refusing to do due diligence... maybe you should consider I dont know, moderating your server and if need be promoting enough moderators to do so? Crazy idea huh.

If you dont have time capacity or money to hire moderators then do a good enough job people are willing to volunteer their time because they believe in the community.

I am a horrible moderator because I dont have the time is pretty much your excuse here, and its a bad one.

> My choice to use the list was based off months of reviewing the list and the way it was curated, and the fact it can't be swayed by one or even two of the instances's ban lists that contribute towards it.

Factually wrong. Each list contributes a vote to the final list, meaning every block list sways the final output.

The fact that the list of servers which constitute the list are themselves **highly** abusive and noted for such in some cases (such as mastodon.art being one of a small number of master lists) is exactly why it is abusive and negligent of you to support it. Any block list where mastodon.art doesnt just get a vote but is part of a hand selected small list of master lists which literally define the list... no sorry but that is absolute negligence on your part.

If anyone has any reports of abusive moderator behavior from past members please sent it to me **in private**, I am compiling a portfolio of such incidents.

In particular abuse from @wild1145@universeodon.com / @wild1145@mastodonapp.uk . I also am concerned with anyone from the community or fellow minorities who were mistreated by moderation staff, if there is any issue specific to those communities I want to make sure it gets looked at.

Where this has gained some degree of attention today for the #Universeodon (and by extension #MastodonAppUK folks)

I have made use, for a while now of the minimum block list provided by @oliphant - This list combines the public block lists of a number of mastodon instances including some that I personally have had previous issues with. However, the minimum list has proven to be almost always spot on when it comes to removing servers that are known to be problematic for a range of reasons.

A couple of weeks ago that list got imported here to Universeodon, and there were a small handful (5 maybe) servers that had some existing relationship which we severed as a result of the import, which was an intentional decision on my part.

The intention behind bringing the list in was to start to align our moderation with MastodonApp, but to also try to ensure we aren't reacting to reports constantly, and that we can prevent our community from having to see content that may be upsetting.

Love it when these morons intentionally take shit out of context....

@admin

I was only speaking to their policy regarding federation. I cant speak to if they were responsible with their own user base (which i am less critical of because you can always migrate).

@wild1145

@admin

In the past they were actually kinda responsible about it. They used to do due dilligance and made responsible decisions. Seems around the time they got a new moderator on board everything went down hill and due dilligrance went out the window. No surprise that was when their use based went running to the hills and has decreased every day since then.

This is just the last step they needed to take to kill the server.

@wild1145

I also just checked and this seems to have monumentally damaged the use count on the server.

I dont know exactly when this was enacted but in recent months the user count for the server plummeted from 80K to 20K and has month by month been continually decreasing since then as people flock away from the server. I suspect the use of this extremely abusive block list, and perhaps similar decisions are a large part of the reason.
