To anyone who thinks capitalism doesnt breed innovation hasnt heard about hamster chopsticks!

@mapto Absolutely.. A company is only as good as its members.

LOL the IEEE social network wont let you send a message with "damn" in it because its a curse word according to them.. I tried to say "I have damn near everything..." in response to a question. Can't even make this shit up.

@louis You have different levels of roads.. a walked path will of course form that you dont need to bushwack, but this isnt always consistent. Plus dirt roads dont really help with speed or breakdown completely as there will be lots of holes, puddles, rivers and large fallen trees in your way. A natural path vs a maintained road (even a basic one) can easily double your travel speed if i had to guess.

I am sure map and knowledge played a noticeable role too. It would be interesting to be able to actually quantify it somehow.

Keep in mind though during this period bridge building was huge.. every settlement made the building of bridges one of its top priorities. Typically it was forced labour where all settlers needed to contribute to bridge building or else be fined.

@louis A combination of factors, but primarily roads. You have to remember road building is about the building of the path itself, that isnt the most impactful part usual. The biggest impact comes from the bridge building.

That said paving roads (even with rocks) generally does mean faster travel with fewer break downs. So there is likely an effect there too. It isnt exactly minor.

Have you ever tried to travel through the woods without following a trail, particularly if its overgrown? Good luck.

As an owner in a company with nearly 25 workers, and a CTO of many larger companies I have come to realize one very important thing... Treating your employees well and generously and looking out for them is the most selfish thing a company can do for it self.

Well treated employees who are paid well, have good mental health, low stress, and work in an environment they love will stay with you, and produce far better quality work and a much higher output. If all you care about profits, then treating your employees well is the best thing you could do.

A misunderstanding in 1987 led to a large puddle in new mexico being classified as a pond when a dozen immigrants were found ducking inside it to hide from border patrol.

@KimPerales

Could not disagree more.. She is the candidate who supports racial genocide and anti-trans laws.. .nothing about her encourages anything positive. The only thing she does to discourage Trump is to hate him, and does not represent herself from a position of moral superiority sadly.

These two people I would never vote for because I simply cant support hate and murder of innocent people. Third party vote is the only ethical vote.

@profdc9 @kottke

As well as you should.. Though if you are voting in one evil to replace the evil you hate more you havent done yourself or anyone any favors.. but hey if you think race based genocide and anti-trans laws are somehow an improvement go for it.

@profdc9

Well then if you dont want him to come after me or others sounds like you need to not vote for him (or an equally evil alternative) and should make sure you vote for one of the good guys huh?

@kottke

@Carnivius To be clear when i said i have refutded it j meant many timesmon my timeline, not in this thread.

I have no issue rehashing it here for the 100th time on this platform if i feel you want a sincere convom

What do you plan to vote for this election?

@Carnivius

Yes I did, and I have refuted why that is a nonsense and self defeating perspective many times.

The biggest lie the democrats and republicans convinced the wortld of is that you should show your unwavering support for evil just because it has a greater chance of winning.

@kottke

Luckily there are 3 other choices on the ballot than Harris and Trump. Anyone who cares on any level about hatred towards minorities would vote for one of them instead. If Harris wins I never want to hear another democrat play the race card, ever.
