> Minimum wage is supposed to be a living wage

and it shouldn't be, thats the point. It disproportionately harms the poorest least skilled of the work force, it shouldnt exist at all, let alone act as a living wage.

> Frankly, food and housing should be freely available to all

Absolutely agree it should be, and minimum wage should also be abolished.

> but at an absolute fucking minimum, a person working full time should be able to afford their own place and decent food

Only if that full time is **worth** decent food and your own place. People deserve food and an education to be able to gaint he skills to be worth a home and decent food, it is not the obligation of anyone paying someone money to do a task to provide that. It is the governments responsibility to create a healthy economy and valuable workers through access to free education, training, and sometimes welfare.

> which is completely impossible at min wage in the US right now

Entirely possible, for people who are skilled enough to be worth the income needed to afford these things. The fact that many people exist who do not have sufficiently marketable skills is the problem needing solving, not minimum wage.

> Fuck the protestant work ethic and the religious fanatics it rode in on.

Has nothing to do with work ethic, bother understanding a persons position first.

Ya know, I feel like I dont rue enough days... I cant remember the last day I rued...

@LaD_Hallo By every definition we already are well into a mass extinction event.

For some background we are currently 100x to 10,000x the background extinction rate (typically its 0.1 to 1 species per million per year, and we are currently seeing 100 to 1000 extinctions per million per year). The proper units for this is E/MSY so we are seeing 100 to 1000 E/MSY right now compared to a background of 0.1 to 1 E/MSY.

If we compare that to the rate during the big-5 mass extinctions it is as high, or significantly higher. The late devonian extinction rate (the slowest) was 70 E/MSY, meanwhile the end-permian extinction rate (the highest of the 5) was ~300 E/MSY.

Yes we are **well** within a mass extinction, and if we do not correct things immediately after 100 years at the current rate we will see the same overall extinction as these mass extinction events.

Sure, as long as that rent is a shared room, and the groceries consist of chicken every night... which you can off a minimum wage job.

In 2019 the account was marked as sensative. It seems it was because they were posting automated posts without monitoring their account. I reached out to them, they never answered, so it got marked as sensitive to ensure it doesnt pollute public timelines with spam.

We had a weird slowdown from a config issue. Should be fixed now, is anyone still experiencing slowdown? We can always increase the resources.

@realcaseyrollins

I thought people had to respect people due to political opinions. Shouldnt you have had to ask if this post was politically motivated before you choose to disrespect them?

This is my point, if someone has a disgusting view they should not be isolated from you loosing respect for them simply because it is politically motivated.

@Clambino

@Clambino

I have no idea what "sex travel" even is. but im int he USA right now, feel free to try to throw me wherever you wish.

@realcaseyrollins

@realcaseyrollins

You certainly have that right.

Your opinions dont get a pass simply for being of a political nature.No one is ever protected from judgements simply for being "political", they are protected because of their nature. You are welcome to disagree on conservative or liberal terms all you ant, and yes it would be wrong to attack someone for being a conservative. But if they straight up tell me "us american should be deported" you will not have my respect regardless of if that opinion is a poliical one or not.

Regardless, the respect I give others is not measured by the respect I receive. And I have no shame in not respecting a person who wishes harm on other people, and never will.

@lnxw37a2

@freemo @lnxw37a2 Oh I missed that reply.

Yeah and that's the funniest thing about this whole conversation: I don't support #Trump anymore, and haven't for months if not years (I don't remember exactly when I stopped supporting him but it was sometime during the 2024 election cycle). I've hated #MAGA for even longer than that.

@realcaseyrollins

Then I misunderstood, am sorry, and I see my respect in you has always been well placed and it is a great relief I didnt misjudge your character as badly as I thought I had done.

My apologies for misunderstanding my friend, and as far as Im concerned I can safely continue with the deep level of respect for you I have always had.

Thanks for reassuring me some people have integrity.

@lnxw37a2

@realcaseyrollins

I would continue to defend your right to speech. You dont see me threatening to block you at an instance or even a personal level do you?

You are supporting an enemy of the state if you are supporting Trump at this point. But even then you dont hear me trying to silence you.

@eriner @lnxw37a2

ITs a bit more than that.. Every single person deported has access to a hearing (albeit summarily) on deportion. So yes, they do.

We have a fast-track process, and in that process there are two check points where the immigrant can demand a hearing.

There is a gross difference between a fast-track process where an immigrant **opts** not to ask for a hearing, and is deported summarily, vs rushing someone out int he middle of the night against a judges orders.... not even comparable.

I just did a whole right up ont he fast-track process and the various points where a person is garunteed judicial review should they invoke it.

@realcaseyrollins

Cool, obviously you have at least one brain cell if you dont support deporting american citizens.

Now do you have at least 2 brain cells and likewise dont support presidents who claim they want to deport us citizens? Thats more the issue, if you see the gross violations Trump is both doing, and claiming he will try to do, and you are pissed off and oppose his rule, then I fully respect you again. If not then I hate to say it but this is the moment ive lost a very long track record of respect for you.

There are lines people cant cross and expect me to respect them. Wanting a president who says they want to deport US citizens, and actively circumvents the due process clause of the constitution is one fundemental thing i can never respect. I hope that isnt you, as 1) I never would have expected it to be and 2) I much prefer to think the respect you gained from me is earned and not misplaced.

@lnxw37a2

@realcaseyrollins

"being here illegally"... as ruled by what court? Thats the point you arent getting here. Until a court rules your here illegally, then you arent, thats the point. Crimes need to be ruled in court before they are determined...

You are familiar with innocent until proven guilty right?
