@wowaname Yea, even I made one once. :)
@wowaname I just meant ill probably make some stupid mistake that you laugh at eventually too :)
@wowaname I'm sure I'll be on the receiving end of that eventually.
@wowaname Well I think it was funnier from the outside looking in. Either way I was in tears I was laughing so much :)
@wowaname Well its an easy mistake to make of course if you tend to forget things. But doesnt change how funny that was :)
@wowaname No. We literally talked just a few days ago about you running your own instance, hating mastodon, etc etc. My comment asking you to join was (or at least should have been) a VERY obvious joke relating to that conversation. Instead you took it literally. Which I have to meet has been very hilarious for me to see due to the irony and all. But you seem oblivious to it even when i tried to subtly point this out. But now its just getting sad so I hope this more drawn out explanation helps explain it.
@hellpie oh ok, nope not angery no worries.
@wowaname Wow, still completely oblivious? lol
@hellpie I also wouldn't still be following opal or have you unmuted if I felt you "got under my skin". It is pretty hard to do that if all you have is words.
@hellpie No why would you say that? I said that it is hilarious and im laughing a lot. That would be the exact opposite of being under my skin. It is generally enjoyable to laugh.
@hellpie Exactly. my response of "trollololol" Was me laughing at your trolling.
But to be clear e and opal just a day or two had a rather long and involved discussion where they talked about running their own instance, hating mastodon, etc. My original comment was a tongue in cheek reference to that conversation by inviting her.
Unfortunately both you and her were too busy making fools of yourself to figure out what was going on. Thus, to me, it is entirely hilarious and you and her are the butt of the joke, and the irony of that is even more amusing.
@hellpie trollololol
@wowaname lol
@wowaname ::woosh:: thats the sound of my original reply going right over your head...
@wowaname Its so backwards its forwards!

It seems like the Fediverse has some very awesome people. Most of the conservatives are reasonable, havent seen any of the extremist conservatives I tend to see more often on facebook.
However while there are may wonderful neo-liberals on here (left leaning) it seems like all the worst, most vile and toxic examples of neo-liberals have chosen the fediverse as their home. Its like gab for the left.
I think there are enough quality people to make it ok, most of the extremists will block me the first time I try to have an adult conversation with them anyway so the problem solves itself quickly. It just makes me wonder what has made the fediverse so attractive to them in the first place.
My ideal social network would have rational scholars ready to debate differences of an opinion every chance they get. With extremists (particularly politically speaking) no where to be found. A boy can dream...
@c1t7 @ashfurrow@mastodon.technology Absolutely correct. Legally speaking with the current law facebook has every right to shut them down if they wish. I addressed that point in an earlier part of the discussion though.
Just because you own the hardware doesnt mean *ethically* you are free to censor. The best analogy I have in my mind is the ISP and internet. The ISP runs PRIVATE hardware. That hardware gives you access to a public network (the internet). In many ways an ISP is like a node in a social media network (even more true when federation is at play). A social media server (like mastodon) is also a private server giving you access to a public network (the fediverse).
For the same reason I'd say it is unethical (and thus should be illegal) for a private ISP to censor aspects of the internet (read: I support net-neutrality) I would say the same for social media. Social media service providers should be held to the same standards of net-neutrality as an ISP would be despite both being private hardware and private companies.
