@masterofthetiger@theres.life Yea its crazy simple. But someone will need to go through and put time into each release. Not much time mind you. But its still going to help to have more than one people sitting at that button and ready to fix it if it doesnt work via the automated process.

@Fatih19 If his intention is to ensure it is identicle to tusky other than the block then yea I'd be happy to work with him.

@M0YNG I personally would NOT want to make anything Gab specific or support them in any special way.

I would just want to ensure that the software remains neutral, going beyond just gab but ensuring the pattern of hard-blocking instances in general doesnt continue forward.

@masterofthetiger@theres.life We could collaborate if youd like?

@mundauf Gab is still not part of the fediverse, but they will be soon (july officially).

The fediverse is a name for all the servers which use One of a set of protocols, most notably ActivityPub. This protocol let the servers talk to each other (this allows you to follow and reply to people from other servers).

Mastodon is one piee of software (the one we run here on QOTO) which implements ActivityPub.

@sozialwelten @mundauf

Thats different. There are hard blocks. These are coded into the software and anyone who uses it is forced to accept the block and cant turn it off. This is completely seperate and unrelated to the fact that the user also has the power to add and remove additional instances to block.

One is by the choice of the user, the other is forced onto the user.

It is because the hard-blocked instances are instances the developer doesnt approve of and thus want to force-block for everyone.

@mundauf Also blockchain isnt related to mastodon. Thats a different tech.

@mundauf Its a recent rather large debate across the fediverse.

Tusky had never previously blocked any instances as far as I know. Gab however recently decided they were going to migrate over to mastodon (or a fork of it). the intance that is up is experimental and very few people on it. In response for the first time the Tusky dev decided to add in a hard block.

The result is the whole mastodon community seems to be debating the issue and morality of that move.

How would you guys feel if I hosted a version of tusky that was an exact fork of tusky, follows the upstream, but eliminates all interna app blocks of instances. Would you guys support that initiative? I could even put the fork in the google play store.

@CyReVolt The more relevant part is that gab launched a test mastodon instance. Also that tusky hard blocked said instance.

@MacLemon How ya figure. Im the CTO in at least two of my companies where I use this tactic. We have an actual spam filter so virtually none of the email that gets to me is spam (that I actually see).

@MacLemon Or do what I do and just get alll non-assigned emails routed to the CTO and let him sort it out :)
