@ABScientist COVID is quite common without symptoms or issues. I have had it 8 times now because I worked as a scientist with patients so I was tested often. Of the 8 times i had it I presented no symptoms of any kind 7 out of those 8 times.

Only reason they are showing up positive is because its just so common to present asymptomatically. In fact you are probably around hundreds of people in a day who would test positive but have no symptoms.

@cbarbermd

Can you point me to the source where Trump said "terminate the Constitution of the United States.".

At some point in the collective minds of people we stopped understanding the difference between attacking ideas, vs attacking the people who hold those ideas. People assume if you hate an idea someone holds by extension you hate the person. If you think an idea is idiotic then you must think people who hold the idea are idiots.

We need to get back to the place where people dont take personally when ideas are attacked.

@rayckeith

There is absolutely a very small minority of the religious community that would probably be ok outlawing condoms. But its a huge leap to go from that to suggest the majority of the GOP would push for that if given the chance. I highly doubt the majority of the current GOP would vote to outlaw condoms if given the chance right now.

I think we all know, without invoking project 2025, that the republican agenda is to do away with healthcare. As for restricting contraception, depends what you eman. They certainly would want to restrict it in the sense of not requiring employees or even healthcare to support it. But I highly doubt many republicans want to make condoms literally illegal.

Not saying thats any better mind you. But lets not sound like conspiracy theorists here or else we will loose respectability in the points we make. Generally invoking "project 2025" probably isnt in our best interest particularly when we already have enough info just invoking the GOP manifesto itself.

No doubt higher temperatures and new records are becoming more common, no doubt. But my point is there are records of florida being colder than points int eh arctic circle long before recent times is all. My point is just that its a bad metric since its not all that extraordinary.

@damngoodtech

@CStamp

Yes it is. I dont get the relevance of pointing that out. Did Vance say something recently I'm missing for context? I dont give much attention to democrat and republican childishness so i may be out of touch with something.

@louis

That works fine when servers play by the rules... a spam server is likely not to. They will just mass spam people and change their domain every hour, and it effectively becomes unblockable in any effective way.

The only reason that isnt more of a problem yet is because there isnt much commercial interest here yet. But if this place were popular that would be happening a lot and the only way to effectively stop it would be to switch to a white-list mode.

@mcv @randahl @admin

@louis

You will care when they start spamming everyone with commercial ads and traffic.

That said you cant reasonably expect to keep commercial interests off an open-network. So I am not suggesting there is much we can do to stop their existance. But we can, at a minimum, block the ones that spam,a nd avoid joining the ones that are commercial but maybe not spamming/advertising on the network.

@mcv @randahl @admin

@louis

Open-protocol is not really the overall solution, as that can still mean privatized software and commercial interests running it. The only acceptable solution IMO is open-source AND open-standards.

@mcv @randahl @admin

@dangrsmind

If it were against Biden Trump was the clear winner, he doesnt even know where he is half the time.

But I agree against Harris I dont expect Trump to do too well, that said, im not sure if Harris will do any good herself but it really isnt hard to beat Trump (unless you have dementia, lawl).

@louis

Promising idea.. but I dont think commercial social media will ever be the ideal

@mcv @randahl @admin

@louis

I have no idea honestly. Is bluesky commercial or public? Arent they commercial? If so I really would be skeptical on that.

@mcv @randahl @admin

@freemo @randahl @admin

Exactly. The problem with Twitter/Facebook/etc algorithms is that they're opaque and not under our control. I'd like to see a system where they're optional and completely under the user's control.

@PattyHanson

I cant imagine that going as fun as you'd imagine. I really just expect him to say something like "we use condoms", I dont think most people are super private about that.

@mcv

My thoughts exactly, the twitter and facebook algorithms arent bad because their algorithms, their bad because they work for the best interest of FB and twitter, and not its users.

@randahl @admin

@damngoodtech

Thats actually very common. Remember the arctic circle isnt the same as saying antartica, its a much bigger area and includes areas that expiernce summers.

For example 30 - 40C (yes all the way up to 100F) have been recorded int he arctic circle in the past. On many occasions.

> The point of the Fediverse is that WE DECIDE WHAT OUR OWN FEED IS... no algorithm, no "AI" deciding what we see and what we don't see.. We decide, with our own hashtags and filters, etc.

Yes but I'd argue these tools are lacking.There should be algorithms, but these algorithms should be under **our** control. We can turn them off if want, or configure them how we want.

Algorithms arent evil when your the one in control.
