Just had a thought regarding warentless searches of cars...

The automobile search doctrine allows cars to be searched without a warrant so long as there is probable cause and the car is "readily mobile". So if a cop says he is going to search your car, or you think he is about to, and you have something illegal, just slash your tires. Now it is no longer readily mobile and any warentless search would be illegal.

The R̶e̶p̶u̶b̶l̶ #MAGA party has ambitions to achieve #enshittification. All political parties do. This is when two groups that need each other, or think they do, become so dependent on an intermediary between that the intermediary can abuse & exploit both groups. The MAGA party intermediates between the ownership class and the exploited class. They have the exploited class completely bound to them but not so much the ownership class.

> Governments in civilized countries have imposed a statutory minimum salary to avoid exploitative employers from paying starvation wages but I suppose that offends your libertarian principles!

I am more offended by the loaded language to imply that anyone who doesnt agree with your approach to solving the problem isnt civilized.

You have only proven my point, it is /**the governments** responsibility to ensure the market is healthy, not the company. Applying a minimum wage is one way in which governments attempt to execute on their responsiblity to fix the markets, it is also a way in which they fail and make the markets worse.

Minimum wage has shown to increase the number of people who are jobless among the least skilled of the population (those without HS diplomas are most effected). Ergo minimum wage laws have caused more harm towards the groups they attempt to help, therefore, no I do not support it. Instead I support programs that are aimed at increasing the marketability of the population such as government paid education up to the PhD level and strong welfare programs.

> The problem with even the most generous statutory minimum wage is that it is seldom increased to keep up with inflation.

Thats not the problem, in fact, the more you increase it the more you harm the people most in poverty, those who are under-skilled. So no, doing that would just make it worse.

> Welfare is not and never has been what folk want;

A heroin addict wants nothing but heroin. Giving people what they want isnt what I care about. Giving people what they need is.

> What they want is decent work with pay that enables them to pay their rent or their mortgage and raise their families if they have one. It's the billionaires who run the world's largest corporations who are amongst the worst offenders for paying starvation wages with Bezos being a fine example!

Which is exactly why you need welfare and a generous paid education system up to PhD level. Welfare feeds the people and gives them a basic quality of life. That only buys them time. It is only from the education and training provided that a real solution comes, and that solution is exactly what you describe, the ability to make good money for reasonable work.

The correct answer was 2... Seems no one got it right (I was the only one who voted 2).

@wjmaggos I'm just trying to figure out how you reconcile wanting everything to be local and decentralized in social media, but when applying those same principles to other things people might want to do, it somehow takes on a negative connotation ("international anarchy") and must be met with a one-world police state.

A state which, as I try to point out, will be a power magnet for all of the worst humanity has to offer, and, as history has shown time and again, will inevitably become corrupt and oppressive.

You think handing your social media keys to Elon is dangerous. Imagine when it's everything in life. And there is no place on earth to escape to. (Then again, maybe you can't imagine that, which is why you still think it's a good idea)

@chris

Is there an actual study on this trying to quantify it?

The population of the usa in '69 was 200 million, so at almost half a million people at woodstock that would mean that 1 in 400 people alive in '69 had attended the festival... Thats pretty huge when you think about it. 0.25% of the entire population at a single festival, thats massive!

As a Freemason I found the following passage about our teachings exemplary of why I joined

MASONIC TEACHINGS

[...] extend charity and sympathy to all mankind, shield and support the widow and orphan, defend virtue, respect the aged, honor the bonds of friendship, protect the helpless, lift up the oppressed, comfort the downcast, restore dignity to the rejected, respect the laws of government, promote morality, and add to the common stock of knowledge and understanding.

Thought I'd try the patterned white on white with a jacket.. works better.

Decided to try patterned white on white today. It works.. needs a jacket I think or it's too plain.

@Strandjunker

Completely false.

For example 19% of all bankruptcies in Canada are illness related just as one very obvious incorrect statement. Sadly most of these countries lack data, but the ones that track this show significant bankruptcies caused by medical illness

Similarly 8.2% of bankruptcies in the UK are caused due to illness.
