6 months celebration party of this upgrade event (that it hasn't happened) and another *maybe* when it happens!) :)
@L29Ah @cweickhmann @trinsec @freemo I might call it 'non-event" instead of upgrade event but that doesn't represent fairly what has been tried so far... which without bugging for basically has kinda get left unsaid... which I find a bit unprofessional as work regardless of "you didn't pay for it" comment or when people say but don't do (and then don't say that they can't do it and instead wait for another bugging message)... 🙌 but this is not to pester just saying free people that don't turn up are also annoying / costing in some way and better not mention "in a few days" AT ALL.
And I say non-event too as a fun way to manage expectations (again) and suggest freemo's estimates are often wrong on this upgrade happening thing (you have to chase if you value something) - btw freemo AGAIN you said you would enable search for own posts in a few days - CAN YOU MAKE IT HAPPEN KAPITAN or just tell me it's not possible! And don't complain as I'm not complaining any more than asking again!)
FOR THOSE NEW - THE BASIC STORY...
For those new, the upgrade was supposed to be by weekend earlier this year. the weekend, then after... and now 6months on now - though I haven't looked at exact date to waste that much of my time on it (and because you can't search your own posts here).
Right now biggest thing not working is listed below and what I've alerted whoever is maybe on this:
- no searching of own posts
- no upload of many file types or size limits (I was doing a podcast but anyway was a bit dead here)
- few misfires / error (of which retry solves it) or posts that freeze the TOOT button for about 30s and then after retry works!
- some other errors / timeouts
- maybe people forgetting about this all during their lunch breaks (lol) is also part of it :D
So limits of sorts but not so bad... the time itself is getting worse when trying I find a post or the many lists of super-tips I make and now can't find so easily- I find this out after forgetting and seeing the message "search is not enabled on this server".
I'll add to that what you said also:
- Not able to see some accounts natively in Mastodon (accounts that exist elsewhere). This could be other reason - probably not though, and you probably tried loading the static page instead like https://mastodon.social/@Mattahan/ instead of being logged in viewing it? If it loads as static external page then it's problem on our side)
Anyway I'll add the above to the quick list as I realise I had that too for a user and pondered why...
GENERAL WARNING ABOUT ADDING CONTENT ON #QOTO OR MOST MASTODON SERVERS: 📋
➡️ You can't export data into something human readable format on Mastodon - so it's no worries if your posts are all disposable.... but if like me it's curating, re-edited, preparing to write a book of sorts then it's not helpful at the end and not like Twitter (Twitter gives offline version of same interface you would see online of posts)
You might know it on Mastodon having moved but you get a JSON file and images - that's it almost as export backup with Mastodon 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 ). Expecting you to be a JSON master. 
Even still I haven't met anyone able to make their online in to offline as viewable / navigatable format (with pictures to posts!)
So if you moved already you literally left your curation behind I guess and left a link of the soon-to-be-relic and separate search you'd need to do logged in there - unless the server dies and you can't even search that anymore!... 
OK FREEMO - YET ANOTHER IDEA... V3.2.1 but fully functioning ? @freemo
I wouldn't even mind V3.2.1 fully functioning and nothing else. Is that possible?
Can't we go back to more fully version of 3.2.1 and you can consider it "done for now" until after Christmas to full upgrade as a gift to us (basically in your own time and those staff supposedly on it) much later ? 🌲

Failed with Firefox version 115.8 (almost latest) with Mastodon v3.2.1 export (on this server).
The tar.gz downloaded / unpacked ok so doesn't seem that.
1/ Anyone have a guess what error means?...
2/ Anyone have a smaller post archive with only a few posts in backup export file that I can use just for testing this tool?
(like if you are a new user can you export your data and DM me a link to safe upload site like dragging the file to the drop box style thing here: https://bin.dembased.xyz/)

@freeschool hey! sorry it didn't work. how large is your archive? meow has been tested with archives up to ~1GB across chrome, firefox and mobile safari. i'll try to do some testing with larger files over the weekend and see if it's something i can fix.

My archive is
~1.5gb with some media incl;
- pics + mp4 that this server allows bigger more than others - not sure if that would break anything
Would be ok if it skipped anything and said the names at the end and I can extract it from archive after manually,
~9K posts total...
💡 As a test idea for you or user, there could be "ONLY posts and pics" checkbox to see if that works for people...and then they could try fully without filer with other formats and types to see if that is where error might be happening... 💡

OK DID A FEW TESTS
I think it's some of the mp3's with album art that causes issues - also in Mastodon interface it was giving 422 error code (see pic) which might match why it doesn't work in your viewer also (though in Mastodon album art was working for a long time).
When I including my mp3s in the zip file it causes the problems in meowviewer.. Without mp3s no problem (MP4's in posts work and show)
If you want the backup export file I used to get problems I can also upload it for you to test.

In Mastodon interface I remember getting 422 error code while trying to upload mp3's - nobody knew why and it was working for ages - so I think at some point intolerance or problems were introduced as it was working to show thumbnails the way I was adding them (and before we upgraded server as that only happened recently) and seems same things trigger the same in your viewer...
I remember customising my mp3's by adding/saving/EMBEDDING picture (album pic / cover art) in the mp3 file itself so Mastodon perhaps has issue to upload this or has problem displaying it.
I have attached below (422 error code).

NOTES:
zip files were used (was easier to resave than a new tar.gz) and above combinations tested to see what gives error (mp3s)
Would be good if RAR format was also supported
P.S 4gb RAM - 1 or 2 minutes to load with MP4s in archive, Faster with just posts and pics...

mp3's cause the error - those with EMBEDDED thumbnails (inside the file) seem to cause the problem- or something similar (haven't done the fine testing)
If you want the backup export file I use with small mp3's I can also upload it for you to test.
@freeschool i see, that's not as big as i thought. how much ram do you have? i'll try to simulate the same conditions.
i don't have the time to test right now, but i suspect it's the initial ungzip or untar that crashes, before it can save the files. if you're okay with only some of the files showing, you could try unpacking the archive, deleting the ones you don't care about, then archiving the files again (zip or .tar.gz). but i'll try to fix unpacking in meow.
