So a small note that human nature is like this ---> wait until water runs out ---> and then start to re-use from lack of choice.
Moral of story is we as human need to force ourselves to re-use and use buckets in the sink or water bigger containers after.

If someone else provides infinite pipe of xyz / net / etc then we misuse it / don't keep focus (arguably the planet is the real economy of life which helps all other things and todays toys)

So the truth is also human nature CAN force itself to reuse the water. Certainly I am every day
(it's a big silent win).

Even when I was living lavish I was still reusing my big bath water for weeks dishes or my football boots or plan it a bit...
I don't use much detergents so this helps too.
Even without bath water just a bucket is a start
Clean veg in water, then turn it into all the colours, grey, orange, brown until really you have to throw the water... and even that is calculated onto some plants or strategic splashing somewhere!

The planet is important, people just use water and it goes down the pipe... and they get charged for it.

In June 2019, Funkwhale officially became an association. When the project started, Agate ran the project as a BDFL (Benevolent Dictator For Life). It became clear that this wasn't a very good way to run things, so she made the decision to formalize the collective.

Creating an official association (https://www.journal-officiel.gouv.fr/associations/detail-annonce/associations_b/20190026/327) brought with it many benefits. It gave the project a written legal structure for decision making. It also presented a framework for handling memberships to give people voting rights. The association has been instrumental in shaping Funkwhale's democratic approach to development.

Things have changed a lot since the creation of the association.

- The original maintainers have stepped away from the project.
- A new project team has stepped up.
- The majority of the project team are no longer located in France.

As we work on the project more, our statutes sometimes feel more restrictive than helpful. In particular, the paid membership model for voters feels exclusionary. While it's possible to request a free membership, this isn't clear and can be embarrassing. Our statutes are also written in a very formal way that may be challenging for people to read. It's not an approach that a lot of people are used to.

Additionally, the running of the association is a lot of work. Making big decisions requires a lot of organization and planning. The handling of money and paperwork requires us to maintain a presence in France. And importantly, we aren't getting the amount of interest we need for new elections. This lack of interest recently led to us needing to change some of our statutes to accommodate limited interest.

We need to change something.

## What are you proposing?

After some discussion in our forums (https://forum.funkwhale.audio/d/10-legal-state-of-the-funkwhale-collective),
we got in contact with the Center for the Cultivation of Technology (https://techcultivation.org/).
They are a non-profit that helps free software projects handle work outside of software development. They have offered to assist us with handling financial, administrative, and legal tasks. These are tasks that we find quite challenging to work on, especially as we are trying to build the software. We are quite interested in taking up this offer, but it would mean dissolving the association.

The association is currently responsible for donations and project administration. We can't continue as an association and hand these tasks over to the non-profit. If we decide to take this path, we'll dissolve the association and let the non-profit handle the administration.

## But what about members?

Members are currently able to vote on big decisions about the collective. This isn't something we can copy over to this proposed structure. This has made us think about what we currently use membership for and how we could improve it.

We would like to move to a more holistic view of membership. One that isn't based on money or any specific contribution. We'd like to move to a system that recognizes more people in our community and gives them a voice. Contributions take many forms, and we want to recognize all contributions equally. Code submissions, documentation, designs, translations, running and using the software. All these contributions are important and we should recognize this better. We can't do this with the association, and it leads to a somewhat exclusive environment.

Money collected through membership fees will be counted as donations and will still be used for the good of the project.

## Has this already been decided?

Not at all! The association members need to vote to make this decision. We're writing this blog post to let everyone know what's going on and what our position is on the topic. Of course, if the association votes to keep things as they are then they will stay as they are. That's what it means to be a democracy! 😄

We want to put this to a vote in a general assembly to formalize our response. If we decide to move away from the association, a general assembly vote lets us do that. We can start the process of dissolving the association and moving our assets over.

We'd like to open this discussion up on our forum (https://forum.funkwhale.audio/d/112-future-of-the-funkwhale-association) to hear your thoughts on it. Once we've got an idea of everyone's feelings, we'll create a poll. Depending on the outcome of this, we'll look at what we do next.

SHORT VERSION OF UNOBVIOUS NUANCES IN LIFE:

It's a short way to say about how life and language may look simple or easily translated, but read too shallow can be read wrong because assumptions are that peanut and butter are easy to read, So things mean different things sometimes (even if you knew this one).

I'm using this example to say the obvious is sometimes not Peanut Butter exactly!

It helps to read into more than the aesthetics or even just words because they can mean many things especially to others (not just you). So in this case the peanut butter is an easy neutral example so imagine if it was political (Bitcoin is my favourite one as it creates such a strong mix in people even if they don't believe I'm not advertising here, just it creates emotions real good!
So as easy parallel I found this example good so any subject can be more neutrally looked at (helps if you have someone guide you through things) so even you and me as entities (the peanut butter) are not always assumed mean what you or I assume and even recreate ourselves.
Helps to read or ask just a bit more deeper and even help ourselves realise what we are growing into / out of !!!! Yes we're growing so I can change ingredients almost in myself!

To converse with others is also my direction here in mentioning growth, for aligning your own perception or overall humanity in understanding similar nuances. And well stupid examples like Peanut Butter too!

(I'm using this example to say things can be read but not understood but I didn't know how to say it other than Peanut Butter!)

Banks are political (pick and choose) who they loan out money to (picture hints to that).

It more about re-enforcing existing profitable practises I think than helping people... and while they may have reasons to check (I'm being generous to them) I don't think they would even try a bit to try speculate something nice for people (they still collect I think if business fails which about 50% do in 1st two years)

This is a vicious cycle for what they don't fund... (because effectively they kill those idea or do not giving life to those people or things - even though I believe in the long term 0 debt is the way and giving people debt is never really any solution... or never equalises, merely passes on higher % on the bad tangent of 'money# they started doing in a faulting way of life and basis for man-made virtual numbers for living (and of course fiddling the books or agreeing with job makers ho to get the maximum output from everyone)... so this tangent of money is growing negatives numbers AT THE SAME TIME as loaning money... so even if the origins of money existed and were pure, the banks 'service' of chargnig % means there is still MUCH MORE DEBT IN TOTAL accumulated with time and masses of people)...

So this is bad equation we are in now where not giving money = death and giving money also = death / more debt in total practically unpayable (you die for your work and still keep paying endless unlimited % yourself OR the government's borrowing and charge %'s to your people forcing them to stay busy and not solve the real things in life and to enable them to make/pay for their own bad DisneyLand which we're just now realising on a daily basis we have to go more from scratch with defective by design tool (including money!)

%'s catch up and increase stress / suffering!... therefore death (over longer period of time and less easy to see the dead body or starvation from siphoning people's blood via %'s.... drip drip)

Chess is a lot like puzzle solving and a few similar dynamics in life... if you can train your kids (and yourself!) to accept someone else's better puzzle-making then you can literally have more accepting people and a measurably better population in life accepting loss of this kind.

Also people can accept they are not perfect because Chess is not only about death and damage or defeating people or ego. It's about accepting happenings, puzzling and even learning to forget about it while still able to play the next time and not ignore this game (or these deeper and easy-when-you-know parts of life).

Banks are not a service, more a parasite.

No wonder people start doing bad things banks the draining the blood. sweat and tears from people proportionately to the % charge and they swallow!

When you have someone typing faster back in response lots of time, THEN do you realise why others can get uncomfortable with your own speeds of response! :D

So just saying I'm fast - and don't worry if you're 'slow' or just your own speed... BUT do get faster and be able to do both fast and slow! It's like a drug when making life somewhat (currently between any physical action I think thoughts in the mind are mostly what's needed to develop since what's physically happening is getting rather meaningle$$)

Fortunately it doesn't happen a lot and I realise sending messages (which when you are busy is harder and feels like being asked for attention' on top of everything else) but it is like gold dust in this realm so I don't often ask anyone to really stop or slow down!
