@eriner If we built gallows in front of every bank and local government office, do you think they'd get the message? I personally think we'd need to use it a few times before they started to make changes. Even then they'd be changes to gallows building laws.

Maybe half of them gone would make some changes positive for the people. They'd start to forget in a generation and have to be reminded again...

We give an inch they charge us for a mile.

Government says "you must use our money".

Government delegates control of said "money" to a coalition of private banks.

Banks print as much money as they want and give it to themselves for free via the FED.

Banks buy real assets with the free money, like houses, and force people to pay for it with (front-loaded) interest.

You pay the banks with the "money" you got by trading your time, your literal life-force, but only after being taxed on income and purchase.

This makes sense, right?

Yo, Nostr! Listen up. So many apps promise total control over my own data, my own connections. But then they ASK ME TO ENTER MY PRIVATE KEY. Do you not realize how stupid and counter-productive this is? I simply can’t login on iOS because almost all the Nostr clients want me to enter my private key. What’s the point then? So, I’m sticking with Mastodon and other AP apps since I can self host them and not give up my autonomy. #mastodongoodnostrsad #nostrnotyet #nostr #noonegetsmyprivatekey

There are four dogs standing on this road you're on, not too far down the road.

Do you keep walking or stop and consider another route?

A system isn't broke if it's supposed to stay broken.

Getting swept up in propaganda vs. Doing something useful about doing something more consistently instead...

The hard equation between being swept up in propaganda and mainstream and doing something about it...

So in other words... either

"same shit everywhere" I have to learn and prevent this from coming here or prevent myself being tricked by it

vs.

being overwhelmed and only spending my life following the shit people deliberately lay / responding to shit endlessly...
....and basically not doing more local / practical change (even if remote)

Systems are often bad / made for manipulation no?

Systems seem bad IF by design it moves most of the understanding and choice away from the end user or public (in order to trick them or distance things especially if never aim to educate and help each other help others).

There is a cognitive disconnect with the word 'system' like a system is a neutral or material thing, but since systems are made by mankind, they are made and developed over time FOR VERY POLITICAL preferences / reasons (even if subtle but it's mostly never given away freely or for humanitarian reasons).

--------------------------
THE REST BELOW I ACCEPT IS PROBABLY VERY BADLY WRITTEN BUT IF YOU CAN HACK IT FAST then I think you can take something from it and even reply as the basic disadvantages of system we all probably know!
--------------------------

So if most tech and systems seem to made from Governments (boooo) then a neutral system doesn't really exist though can seem good if developing a water system or boiler unit (some engineers I talked to and was buying parts for said TOTALLY in the end it is not money efficient or work having something you can't repair at double digits per hour / needing boiler repair guy install expensive part when it breaks - and much is sensitive about those things!!),

So flexible or free systems might not exist much as it's all human manipulated for control (let's say) or for very certain outcomes (at best and not in favour of transparency or choice).

I guess I think people are not in control of their life and would prefer it that way...

❓ SO ARE SYSTEMS ARE DOOMED BASED ON LACK OF UNDERSTANDING THINGS?
.... 💣 💥 :bomberman:

------------------------------
SHORT TERM VS. LONG TERM SYSTEM
------------------------------
Short-term benefit might be good or 99% from being provided to, but long term will fail or increase to 100% fail in the end because it will 'run out' or others will fail other people and since they are more in control they might decide one day to up the price or discontinue (even if they have a good will it's naturally just not your decision making and more remote/distant/fragile)

Imagine a water well versus a system that needs electricity and complicated devices....

------------------------------
So leaving it to others / not practising is just irresponsibility in the end?
------------------------------
Examples to check if it's better to have or not:
☑️ / ❌ understanding your providers
☑️ / ❌ understanding your Android etc
☑️ / ❌ contributing / participating as part of using things

All the above much more than not... or just less nearer to 0 for end user, and more like 50+/100
------------------------------
OVERALL TLDR question =
☑️ / ❌ leaving to others to make a system more often?
------------------------------

Because that's what systems seem to do - displace things... and though I'm sure it can be changed, most systems are for manipulation no?

Bad actors, malpractice, negligence, ignorance, manipulators and just not being you = why some systems are bad / less optional.
Apart from the natural design aspect and material limits that limit things I'm talking about humans connected to life in general and even why that 'system' exists.

ISN'T THAT LAST SENTENCE A GOOD ?

When I first signed up for Mastodon, I remember hearing about something called "The Mastodon Server Covenant." I just got curious about what is included in this, so I looked it up. The first commitment is “Active moderation against racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia." Much to my disappointment, ableism is conspicuously absent from the document. I'm thoroughly bewildered. Why is that not included?

@hrefna "Signing you up for bluesky because you signed up for Mastdon" is analogous to "Signing you up for marketing because you purchased something." Of course that's not exactly what bridging does but it's very much along those lines.

@hrefna Good thread as always. But I'd phrase it somewhat differently: opt-out is not *informed* *affirmative* consent. We had a multi-year legislative battle on this in Washington state and vimeo.com/indipluswa has several excellent two-minute videos of people's testimony, including "Opt-out doesn't protect survivors" and "Opt out is not informed consent" (looking at it from a disability perspective).

@HowardTayler It gets better when you look at all the things Threads thinks it should have permission to collect.

📸 I took these photos in 2011, while Julian Assange was in the same High Court in London where the hearing is happening today; (photos previously unreleased, now under (CC) BySa or LAL 1.3)

Today's hearing is about requesting a permission (!) to appeal (!) his extradition to the US (!) where he faces certain death in prison for his work as a journalist and publisher.

Then, he was appealing against his first extradition request (!) to Sweden...

Legalisaing is also mostly a profit-orientated thing... but maybe better than not...

Legal is mostly a profit-orientated thing...

Germany looking at legalising Cannabis but the bill is only passing in one of the two chambers it needs to pass in to become law, so articles might be a bit misleading or just to get people reactions 1st before anything.

A small amount as minimal access could honestly be a good thing to reduce penalising for personal consumption (usually police profit)... but education is needed for people if more available so it's not like another bigger business moved in legal selling like America everywhere...

Adults *in theory* would be allowed to possess 50g at one time at home, and 25g in public."

QOTO Audio error - 422 Error processing thumbnail for uploaded media...

for

Audio attachments now seem to complete upload (go past upload bar hanging) and now reports 422 error at the end:

"422 Error processing thumbnail for uploaded media" (as pictured)

So doesn't attach- And I've tested ogg and mp3, both with and without it's own audio cover art / thumbnail... all fail to attach currently.

I know we're coming back from being 100% but this was an issue before maintenance (but wasn't uploading WITH it's own cover art / thumbnail and needed erasing first and then worked).

So some settings seem different as it kinda worked recently and about 2 months before didn't matter would either way - with a files embedded cover art or without...
