As critics of this theory have pointed out, people may do things because they are addicted, or coralled, or coerced.
But I think there's value in applying revealed preferences to a society.
When officials decide to spend 5,500% of the cost of outfitting pandemic workers on outfitting militarized police, they are telling you who they think you are, and what you value.
More importantly, they're telling you who THEY are, and what THEY value.

Juukan Gorge cave, the sacred site in Australia, one which showed 46,000 years of continual occupation and provided a 4,000-year-old genetic link to present-day traditional owners, has been destroyed in the expansion of an iron ore mine. The #mining giant Rio Tinto received ministerial consent to destroy or damage the site in 2013 under outdated #Aboriginal heritage laws, which were drafted in 1972 to favour mining proponents.
It was the only inland site in #Australia to show signs of continual human occupation through the last Ice Age.
According to a new study on #climatechange it is possible that by 2070:
"∼3.5 billion people (roughly 30% of the projected global population) would have to move to other areas if the global population were to stay distributed relative to temperature the same way it has been for the past millennia"
Although, this is a theory that could lose accuracy over the next 50 years, delaying our transition to #renewables is certainly a bad idea!

A better Formatted and Illustrated version of a very recent Toot -- a passionate issue for me, the proper usage of the Wide screen displays we have in most PC class, laptops and desktops today.
Mastodon default web client doesn't make me fully happy - and I love Pinafore client, it's top level tool. But it falls short on this aspect, sadly.
Space, proper use of my Pixels is Absolutely Crucial for my content creation projects. Which is, most all the time, everyday.

Just a reminder to all those stuck on oppressive servers unable to migrate to a new server due to your preferred server being blocked, there is a tool that lets you circumvent the block!
#Nvidia trained an #AI neural network to produce higher quality frames for games, as an improvement to anti-aliasing, and it works at higher framerates than traditional supersampling!
A great set-up for a centralized system and a smart use of Artificial Intelligence, making AI-focused GPUs more relevant to casual gamers.
Often, to gain #privacy you have to sacrifice speed or user experience. Changing your #DNS server is kind of an exception, though. Unless, you have set up your own private server or you live in a region with poor ping to Cloudflare's servers, 1.1.1.1 seems to be the best solution for privacy AND speed. Although, #Cloudflare is a huge for-profit company, they get audits annually to prove their statement remains true: no IP logs or other user data trading.

If your programs support DNS over HTTPS or DNS over TLS make sure you enable that to encrypt your DNS requests. Firefox and some Android versions do.
Earlier this week, the #EU released it’s #Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, with highlights including a commitment to protecting 30% of the EU’s high-biodiversity land and oceans, reducing chemical pesticide use by 50%, and planting 3 billion trees.
Finally, some good news. I hope we get to see this in practice...
