In my research on #wetlands, I’ve been to some spectacular, internationally important places. Canoed the turquoise waters of the Columbia #floodplain Wetlands, hiked to #peatlands nestled in mountain valleys of the upper Bow River clamboured over dunes to #swales in the Long Point World Biosphere Reserve. My ❤️🔥in these wild places but more and more I’m thinking of #urban wetlands. Why? A short 🧵🪡

My U Waterloo colleagues Michael Drescher and Luna Khirfan wrote a great article on #Ontario ‘s #Bill23. This bill - the More Homes Built Faster Act - is a real piece of Orwellian doublespeak. People of #ontario should be up in arms about this massive #taxpayer subsidy to already lucrative residential developments and extremely wealthy #developers. I’m thinking about all the other #WorkhorseWetlands people take for granted in our urban and rural areas. They are working hard to purify #water and prevent #floods, but do we adequately value them?

Today, why not tidy up your local #wetland? Stop 🛑 that litter from becoming #Microplastics or harming #waterfowl. Bring some garbage bags and some friends and do a clean-up. It will feel amazing to actually make something better with your own hands.

(AP) — NASA is canceling a planned satellite that was going to intensely monitor greenhouse gases over the Americas because it got too costly and complicated.
