I am watching huge waves #today. These waves have travelled from #Alaska uninterrupted, until they come here to #oahu. They break but they don’t stop. The energy released becomes a sound wave I can hear as a dull roar in the distance. And the inside waves generated by the bigger ones slam into the sea wall and I can feel their force as a wave that reverberates through my feet and my body. What power and majesty exists in this world that is a gift of Ke Akua.

I swear we had *some* sunshine #today! I just wasn’t fast enough with the photo. Snow tomorrow then . . . 50’s (!) #PureMichigan #weather #Michigan

#Today was a pretty good day. The garbage got taken out on time instead of forgotten until the last minute. I read about flying squirrels to the kids and then we watched a couple of videos of them gliding. We read about the Sui Dynasty and the building of the Grand Canal in China and we practiced singing Waltzing Matilda. It was a cold, clear day and the sunshine was beautiful. Tuna casserole for supper and one of the kids made butterscotch and chocolate chip cookie bars for dessert.

I bought myself a new desk lamp which also can wirelessly charge your phone. It's pretty neat.

Got my booster today- the new CanSinoBio inhaled vaccine. Super easy, basically comes in a milk tea cup, you inhale, hold it, exhale- done. No taste really. Should improve vaccine rates here, and the efficacy is supposed to be decent.

I taught my first in person class since Winter 2018. I wore my earrings made by my dear friend for luck. You’ll have to ask the how it went. In 99% of the sampled sites in the Borneo rainforest, ecosystems have been found to act as a net source of carbon for at least 10 years when deforestation is very intense and the ecosystem is degraded. This is the opposite of what has been observed in previous work and is due to the high decomposition rates of the organic matter generated.
