i just got into bed, which is the highlight of my day on most days
BUT NOT TODAY!
#today, the highlight of my day was listening to @viralvulpes's cover of "someone like you" by #adele
https://cutie.city/@viralvulpes/110433222355572214
it's SO good. listen to it. you won't regret it
Haven’t shared a lot of my #research on here yet, but #today I’m sharing an #openaccess paper I’m particularly #proud of 🥹. We used #expertopinion to develop a #cumulativeeffects model of the #multiplestressors affecting the #Arctic seabird Northern Fulmar. #fishing, #climatechange, #oil and #mining as well as resulting #boat traffic, #noise pollution, and #contaminants including #plastic are big contributors. Still working on my first cup of coffee, but grateful I can pull up Mastodon. Last evening I kept getting error messages on both phone app and PC, no matter what I did. No clue what was going on. Like me, a little sleep seems to have solved the problem.
Lot of writing got done #today I'm in that rare groove where I don't want to stop. It's the best feeling.
Did, stop, though, to have tea with my sister at Kalk Baai. The tea place had windows looking out on this scene in the photo:
It is COLD today. Frikken cold.
It's time to BOOST! 🚀
Share your daily life using #today on Mastodon. Acknowledging someone's life can make them feel seen and appreciated. Let's show the world how much better Mastodon is by caring about each other.
You rock!
Puffin In Bluebells.
The Isle Of Lunga is always a special place to visit and spend a few hours, but right now, with both the sea pinks and bluebells in bloom, it's heavenly.

RT @VSinkevicius: Plastic pollution can create problems we’ve never thought of:
Floods from blocking drainage systems or pollution in our soils.
Today, I am in Paris for the 2nd round of negotiations for a global 🌍 treaty against plastic pollution.
A game-changer for our future & economies! https://t.co/vo5QBciXm7

Please sign this petition support the #ontario #water #guardians to protect the #Greenbelt and keep the #Provincial Policy Statement. #environmental #conservation in Ontario is under attack when declines in #biodiversity and the impacts of #climatechange are being felt strongly across #Canada. #onpoli

@Brad_Rosenheim Scientists are still trying to pinpoint the cause of recent changes in methane concentration trends (e.g., wetlands). Here are some articles exploring possible sources/sinks: https://phys.org/news/2019-03-methane-atmosphere-surging-scientists.html & https://e360.yale.edu/features/methane_riddle_what_is_causing_the_rise_in_emissions & https://nature.com/articles/d41586-022-00312-2 & https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/150967/why-methane-surged-in-2020
I just learned about #what3words - a 3-metre square grid system that uses a 3 word address to easily and memorably #communicate precise location information globally. Very helpful for #fieldwork in remote locations and #safety plans. The words are random, but coincidentally, the door to the building where our #wetland #ecology lab is based is at ///indoor.roaming.aquatic !

We've known for a long time that climate change is increasing the area burned by wildfires across western North American. Now, a new study by @ucsusa shows that emissions from the world’s 88 largest fossil fuel companies and cement makers are responsible for 37% of the forest area burned in the western U.S. and Canada since 1986. https://e360.yale.edu/digest/fossil-fuel-companies-western-forest-fires
I had a nice week at #iaglr23 Hosting sessions on #microplastics and #wetlands as #keystone ecosystems. #toronto had great weather and the trees bloomed. The lieutenant governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell spoke, calling for increased support for #GreatLakes #science. We need a decadal science plan and we need the #usa and #canada to fund it.
