#physics #earthquake **Thrust at termination of rift** This indicates a very messing ending of the rifting for the large quake. Thrusts give the highest pgv pulses with the most damage. This is a classic '10 years of terror' scenario. I was expecting a large cross-fault like the upper fault to dissipate the end stresses.

#physics #weather ** Due to the Pacific air rolling over NA, everybody is saying what a mild winter we've had in Toronto. However, that air usually attacks the Arctic air mass, and it hasn't. The Arctic air is going back to 60 below, and so we'll have a very long winter.

A small chance that the Pacific cold phase is slowing down, but it still will be cold until the end of the year. I hope it switches for my Tahiti trip.

I've the UVC/titania filters in the house. They give a fresh outdoor feeling and may be the answer to indoor air problems, especially that 'dead air' feeling.

#physics #weather **Atlantic plumes drift down again** The Gulf Stream has had an 'up and down' moment. Those Atlantic plumes are on a path downward. That gives the only winter warmth to the UK. The plumes are fighting a big cold air blob from Siberia, which has a perfect arcuate front. All is at a standstill.

Everybody in Canada loves the mild winter. The physics is that extreme cold spilling out of the Arctic has created and pushed down Pacific storms, giving us that nice, dry Pacific air. In Huntsville, there are no snowmobiles on the ice.
