Power fails at only -44C. This is good physics - copper shrinks in the cold. However, I think they have been deluded by the past warm cycle. They should read Jack London.

Driver door frozen shut. Quite the contortion to start the car from the passenger seat.

The physics of Toronto weather is that it is 'moderated' by the Great Lakes. Thus, we are 'tropical' with a wind chill of -26C. Those of you without lakes might be a tad colder. :) Using 'evil physics' Toronto will hit -30C this year, once the lakes freeze up. This is pipe-freezing weather. :(

NASA doubles down. They are still going with the 'long term trend' which is like saying Bitcoin is still rising. However, they could never say 'it's sinking' because that would hit their popularity. I've always found that if an institution 'can't' say anything, they won't. :)

Toronto storm a complete whimp-out. No shovelling for me!

A blob within a blob. Very interesting weather (an ancient curse). Two ocean plumes have penetrated, and we have an even colder blob cutting into our current one. Get the plastic on those windows!

Toronto storm not much. All the kids were going to Harry Potter downtown, and we were worried. But they all took transit and everything is running smoothly. I'm going to bed. :)

Son's electric car had the charging port freeze up.

I've been waiting for this. The extreme cold is 10 times worse because of climate change. They are using the 'dancing jet stream' as the villian. I totally believe that (so the Dr. doesn't get blocked).
If we want to go into physics, you can look up on WikiP that the jet stream is passive to hot and cold zones. It's like a shadow, and cannot move air particles. It is just a continuous roll, like a thunderstorm, except there is a slight vector westward on the descending air. This can be 'sailed' by jet planes. Please don't think about physics, it keeps you up at night.

@Benji @JonKramer Yes, that is the natural humidity if you live in a wind tunnel. At the minimum have a steamer on at night, or you are a covid magnet. We, in Canada, usually have sealed windows. In fact, the new super houses need an energy air exchanger to stop the windows from raining.

Toronto as the snow starts. I like looking at this stage because I keep saying "Yeah, I don't have to shovel yet!"

I think we should make a list of qualifications here. My relative had a work term with a desk right beside him in early Tesla days. All I can say is 'wooo boy" :) For my suggestion, I keep thinking about Trump's press secretaries.

Western US in a cold-lock, UK has another very persistent cyclone. A cold lock is what happens with Greenland all the time. The cold air is so dense and stationary that the ocean plumes of heat can't penetrate. Never saw it with NA, but you can see all the plumes are bouncing off the coast. Revel in the new experience!

All hopes are on the impossible physics of the ocean currents turning on a dime. When that map starts turning white it's -60C, or something in F.

- 50 below goes to Texas, again. This is a repeat of the 'Big Freeze'. We should be hearing all the stories soon. It was curling to the East Coast. This is accredited to 'Polar Vortex Fairies', even though the PV exists only in near-vacuum. High velocity, very little energy.

I drove into an LTE black hole that is supposed to be modern. Sucks to have an accident. But I did find out my dashcam was on the blink. You have to check them once a month.
