@xtaldave I have various etiquette questions. The FAQs and pointers all seem great on “how to”s, but not so much on the “you might consider”s.

I just asked my communications and IT colleagues at #Stanford to consider hosting a #Mastodon server for our University community (as MIT has already done: mastodon.mit.edu).
Such institutional sponsorships (e.g., higher ed, academic associations, etc.) seem like a compelling & sustainable equilibrium for the #TwitterMigration. I also think organizations that do so would benefit in several ways without meaningful new risks.

@davidallengreen @world @EmmaKennedy I’ve seen CW’d posts of more than a ‘phone screen in length, up to 4-5x as long, which currently renders as elongated whitespace which must be scrolled. While this is obviously a usability issue for the official app, it does currently make it problematic tending towards unusable. Shorter introductory posts would be, for the moment, appreciated by many I don’t doubt.

I am going to try to find time this weekend to add in several new features to QOTO, fix a few small bugs, and if we aare REALLY lucky and things go well I might release a new version of QOTO this weekend (no promises though my life is CRAZY right now, hard to predict).

It’s funny, many of the “what you need to know about Mastodon” or “how to learn about the fediverse” pieces are focused on the technology and the implementation, when the hardest thing for people to understand about this context, if they’re used to traditional social media & tech, is that here we have an expectation of _consent_. Consent if you want to be included in a conversation, consent about being amplified, consent in the form of CWs on topics that you want to manage, etc. That’s it! 🎯
