tutanota.com/blog/chat-control German encrypted email service, Tutanota, opposes the Chat Stasi (as does hundreds of scientists).

Relevant to the other .

I would strongly advise against any sort of mass censorship. Here's some examples of over-reach in regards to app stores.

You have to subscribe to YouTube premium to use the screen lock feature? (The feature to prevent false touch when watching videos).

If you have to subscribe to the premium plan to get high bitrate videos, that's acceptable. But screen lock? VLC has this feature for years, and it's free of charge.

Google, really? 🤔

If Threads, Gab, and Truth Social were to all start federating, that would complete the unholy trinity.

Contrasting with Gab who used to federate for a bit but decided they didn't want to do that any more.

It appears to be run by complete puritans.

This isn't a surprise, as it is Facebook, however, why on earth would someone use this over any other social network?

Show thread

It joins Bluesky as a company marketing itself off the possibility it might get federation but not actually doing it.

Oh, look at that, Threads never actually bothered to federate. Another marketing ploy. Federation coming 🔜

Jack Dorsey appears to be going for an image of a zen guy who goes on meditative retreats with those little ceremonies with the smoke and donning a white robe.

He is still a techbro swooping in with Bluesky (a gated community), in place of the fediverse.

@GeorgeMari It has "failed" if the metric of success is having over 100m or 1b users.

1) This is very short term thinking.

2) The network already has plenty of practical utility. Not every social network needs to be Facebook or to contain the entire world.

3) There seems to be a bubble where you're only legitimate, if you're some techbro pitching a platform.

Heh, yes, Twitter is indeed speedrunning the enshittification cycle.

@skyblond @trinsec Curiously, new posts would go through but wouldn't appear until much later.

It makes me think they're being slated to be written later in a queue, and being backdated.

Anecdotally, the fediverse appears to be getting a larger migration in that area.

I don't know whether I would refer to "dozens" as "flock" though. Lol.

sixthtone.com/news/1013241 Japanese illustrators apparently flocking to Weibo in wake of Twitter stupidity.

Nice to see hundreds of academics from many countries signing a letter to oppose the Chat Stasi.

@skyblond Not quite, it came back up momentarily every now and then. Close enough though.

1) Australia is very authoritarian.

2) Australia is one of the biggest exporters of coal in the world.

The Greens (who actually opposed the ridiculous and puritanical think of the children bill) and their supporters are troubled by climate change and frequently clash with them.

Trinsec @Qoto
@olives Wow, is Australia a totalitarian country?

Uh oh, the server issues are starting again.
