@trinsec I've read that they last longer that way.
@Madagascar_Sky I don't think so, but I may be wrong.

@GreatBigTable Yeah, that first one is reasonable. There used to be a problem where such images would make the entire thread extra-wide, so I'd have to scroll to get to (e.g.) the reply button; this seems to have been fixed.
These images tend to come from various people that I don't interact with much, so convincing them to change their sending behavior isn't tenable.
@beep @pluralistic I wonder if big tech is banking on one particular high-return, low-stakes application: search. If people start using chatbots instead of now-broken search, controlling that chokepoint and its associated ad revenue is huge.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about where the current “AI” craze goes in, say, 12 to 18 months’ time, and I really appreciated seeing how @pluralistic gamed that particular question out. https://locusmag.com/2023/12/commentary-cory-doctorow-what-kind-of-bubble-is-ai/
Occasionally someone sends me an enormous image in an email. Instead of scaling these to the width of the window, gmail displays them at full size with a horizontal scrollbar at the bottom. Does anybody know how to fix this?
(I could change the browser zoom level, but that makes the text tiny.)
@Flash What, or 😎 who?
