@marabel Thanks, I'll take a look.
@rastinza It's still a comparatively small field within philosophy of science, hoping to change that!

So, what I ended up doing is the following: I have a folder on my local computer which is tracked through git and I sync this with a remote server.
On the server on which I need the software I do not have the git repository.
In the git repository I have all the documents I'm developing, a lib folder, a build folder, a deploy folder and a virtual environment.
I have a post-commit hook which builds all the software and in the deploy folder I have symlinks to all the executables I want to have on the server.
The hook also pushed everything in the deploy folder and everything in the lib folder to a stow directory on the server through rsync.
At this point I can update any existing software by simply changing the code and committing.
To add new programs I have to perform an extra step, which is to restow the folder on the server.
This works out quite nicely for me, since virtual environment and all build dependencies stay out of the way and I easily get everything on the server.
I might as well start writing some tests for my software, but that will come a bit later...
Hi everyone!
I'm Marabel, I'm a PhD student working on philosophy of science, more specifically philosophy of chemistry. I'm also interested in feminist philosophy. Before I went into philosophy of science full-time, I was in analytical chemistry, where I did a lot of very fun work on archaeological objects like Ancient Egyptian eyeliner and neolithic stone tools.

@marabel Philosophy of chemistry? Looks really interesting.
Why I know nothing about this despite being a chemist?

Immigration policy, 🇨🇦 being grown ups
@xtaldave Immigration, if well done, can be very good for economy.
But you have to do it well and administer it in order to prevent clashes.
You have to provide houses and jobs for those immigrants in order to avoid poverty which would destabilize the system.
I'm not really sure how they're going to do this, they're going to increase their population by 4% in 3 years, that's a lot of buildings to add.
I think what Canada wishes to do is a good idea for Canada and that it may turn out very well, the main concern in the article is the disappearance of French, which doesn't seem like a huge issue or something that can't be solved.
However, it's very unfair to compare immigration policies of other countries with this one from Canada.
What Canada is doing will probably work but may not be applicable to other countries.
First of all, Canada doesn't have immigrant streams and thus they could close immigration whenever they wish to.
Canada is picking the best educated and most valuable immigrants, they even wish to reduce family reunification.
A lot of other countries simply can not do these things.
Overall, I believe that this is a good decision and that other countries could learn some things from this example; but definitely Canada is in an advantageous position to enact these policies.
Just in case anyone is curious it costs me a little over $1,200 a month to run QOTO and all its services.
We published #Fedilab 3.7.3 in beta.
You will now be able to display all messages in profiles for remote accounts (Mastodon accounts from another instance).
You just have to click on that new icon (magnifying glass).
If you interact with remote messages from the profile, it will work like for followed instances.
@alesssia @barefootstache @culurciello Yes, but I'm not sure how extensively it can be used; generally you use latex to write papers or thesis containing a lot of long and difficult equations.
This is from my bachelor thesis for example, I wouldn't see myself at ease writing it in python...
@redfrog @jimrosecircus1 Did they ask him to pose for the picture?
@topotoolbox Yes, I know a lot of people who visually inspect graphics to buy stocks, I had a polish flatmate that was staring at the screen all day and losing money most of the time.
Surely some people earn money from that, but surely it's not as easy as reading a webpage and following the advice.
In my opinion if you're going to do this kinds of things you have to do it quantitatively with well defined algorithms.
@galeot That wouldn't work, I need a fixed mac address or the gateway will reject my connection since it accepts clients based on the mac address.
@galeot No, not yet
It's not a problem with ipv6, tried changing DNS and stuff to see if that was interfering, but no; the problem is the DHCP lease.
Using systemd-networkd I get a different ip each time I connect, with NetworkManager the ip is always the same
@topotoolbox Very nice, probably these analyses are the best way to go about stock trading, but as always
"past performance is not indicative of future results"
Moreover, the guide does not explain on what assumptions and data it is based on, so I would not call this a very scientific approach.
The article just describes that under certain conditions the stock price may behave in a certain way and that it may be possible to predict such behavior; but no data regarding what this assumption is made on nor regarding its reliability is provided.
@GiudyCorda Ahahahahahaahaha
Questa cosa è bellissima, forse stiamo tornando negli anni 80!

I'm interested in cooking and building stuff.
I love traveling, I lived in India, China, Slovenia, Poland and Spain.
Currently working in Spain in the field of genomics; and doing a PhD in Drug Development using Quantum Mechanics and Artificial Intelligence.
Don't take what I say as an insult, I have no bad intentions and I'm open to talk about it.
Don't star my toots, I find that often useless: if you liked it send a reply.
Consider boosting the toots, it's the only real way in which stuff is propagated through mastodon.
