I have no ethical issue with them making money. I just find Ads to be disrupticve of my personal enjoyment and as such go to great lengths to avoid them. If FB were a paid service I'd likely pay to get rid of ads and not have any issue with that.. presuming they were stealing my data too (I'd also pay so they dont in that case)

@realcaseyrollins @NekoAmps A lot of people prefer to have no association with gab or their peripheral instances, as they are perceived negatively.
My own opinion of them is not favourable, ans I have chosen to not federate with them at all. But, that isa personal user choice, and the instance here has connections to them unimpeded.
I just discovered (two days ago in fact) that I could not boost one of my blog announcements from a large instance where I have an account. Dismayed, couldn't see my profile either, or any content here in Qoto.org.
Turns out that instance (a Tech oriented one, to make it worse) has blacklisted Qoto. I read their Terms of Conduct, and it looks like it is because we don't block other instances the local admin has objections to.
So, guilty by association.
I am dismayed -- and plan to write and appeal that, but if this is ithe reason for it, unlikely we could get un-banned. As an author, I find it sad - the place has 20,000 users almost, and a Tech orientation; a perfect public of possible readers for my themed blog.
Once I have made communications with their admin, and whichever the results, I think it will give me material for a reporting blog post. No secrets, just documenting the functioning of the fediverse and these odd things we encounter.

We disagree on two points. The obvious one is Trump being a bad president, but thats also a bit of a tangent.
The other is that its the elites in Silicon Valley that are the issue. Most of the news agencies arent Silicon Valley Elites running the show, though it is Elites. The issue is far simpler than that... News is for-profit. That means they will do what makes them money and that is secondary to Truth or Honesty. Since people in the USA are all extremist they basically WANT bias, and what the paying public wants they get.

I am not pleased with what I saw there, lewd things with children images. Borderline criminal, imo.
Luckily we have the option and the power to fully block any instances as Users - and I do use that.
Will prepare a blog post on Content Filtering and Blocking, my To Do list is merciless, but I like to have those done.

I would suggest Pinafore for anyone, it works in any op system, but the original request from someone here (which Ange responded to, linking to her guide) was for a Stand alone client; running without a browser.
I tried one that is listed as Desktop, standalone, seemed interesting but never got running for me in Windows.
Besides the awesome Pinafore ( https://pinafore.social or https://pina.todon.nl ), there's Halcyon (https://www.halcyon.social/ or https://halcy.todon.nl ).
