@learner100x I was in the IT industry for over 45 years. It's for this exact reason why I reject having an automated home filled with iOT gadgets. There is no code written by man that cannot be hacked by another man!
@Phaedrus This is exactly why there's no point in relocating from one state to another within the US. Essentially you have your choice of bad or worse. Local police dept's were originally intended to be keepers of the peace. What we have now are local police forces who refer to themselves as para-military organizations & presume to have the same rights (and have been given much of the equipment) used by our military. Since when does any local police force justify having armored personnel carriers, FISA warrants where individuals can be held with no charges for unspecified periods of time? Like it or not, the US does not have local peace keepers. What we have is an extension of an occupation force.
@daviding Were I not 70-years of age, I would move from the US. Where, I'm not sure. What I am sure is that I'm weary of the daily hate, the unbridled greed, & the hypocracy that encompasses our society. This country as it is today bares no resemblance to the principles on which it was originally founded.
@rz The reality is that evil is alive and well in the world. Evil is not black, white, or any other ethnicity. On the contrary, it bridges all races & thrives on pitting one ethnicity against another. Until we learn that we are all one people on this planet, the status quo will remain as it is.
@Phaedrus Brand endorsements or condemnations of any given event to me are totally worthless, if not outright hypocritical. Corporations are nothing more than legalized whores who will say or do anything if it means they can bring in more money to their coffers and those of their investors.
@Phaedrus I was unaware of this & it saddens me deeply in that wikipedia "was" a tool I used to get the straight truth on a variety of topics. How sad that Wikipedia has now become yet another tool of the state!
@Phaedrus Unfortunately we live in an era where the majority of news reporting agencies could care less about the reporting of facts, but rather, portray any given incident in a light which is intended to sway public opinion to the reporting agencies point of view. The term "factual reporting" has become an oxymoron.
@Phaedrus Completely agree. As a citizen of this shit show (USA), we're very much at a tipping point. Either laws and policies will be put in place where all individuals are treated equal, or this country will be become another socially intolerant dictatorship where you either tow the party line or pay the consequences.
@design_RG FB has become a closed venue where there is no free speech. Unless you agree with Zuckerberg & Co's politics & social stance, you're considered part of the problem as opposed to part of the solution
@freemo Tend to agree. As a group, cops are thicker than thieves. They're taught that you back your fellow cop, no matter what. If you do otherwise, you'll likely find yourself a victim of your breathern officer's street justice.
@NeikoCat Probably because most people are inherently against the needless destruction of property that people have worked so hard for, likewise, way too many of these protests turn from peaceful civil disobedience into acts that harm and injure people
“To condemn the #rioting—which I believe to be a moral and political imperative—is not at all the same thing as opposing the #protests. Many observers have been reluctant to do the former because they wish to avoid the latter. I maintain that this is a grave mistake. […] #Progressive intellectuals who make excuses for #streetviolence, even in the face of the awful killing of #GeorgeFloyd, are making a monumental moral and political error.”
