@natecull @dredmorbius kind of feels like the future of the internet is walled gardens all the way down, with controlled conduits between. Not sure if that'll be for better or worse, but I can't see many trends in the opposite direction
@Stephen_Stone twitter needs to make money, which is structurally incompatible with the desires of users to curate their own content. Not sure if there's anything more to be said on the matter.
@celesteh That's surely an Easter song, though? Anyway, Iove Sydney Carter and you should listen to John Ball if you don't know it
@solarkraft that's exactly what I ended up doing. A large file for printing, + a small file for the tablet users
These kinetics spectra always make me think of the trails left behind by movie fighter dogfights or the trackmarks from ground vehicle chases. Signals coming and going, and moving back and forth across each other
Eyy, should probably add #realtimechem and #nmrchat shoutouts to see if twitter's chemist community have started making their way over here yet
@kavbojka that's such an important skill to learn, and I've often wondered what the most effective way to cultivate it would be. "I don't know this shit, noone knows this shit, there's no single manual to go to *but* between googling and trial and error I'm pretty confident we'll manage"
I have no idea how to productively interact with these people. I'm not going to shut up and so what I'm told, I've got no interest in attempting to cow them into accepting my authority (and probably couldn't), so all we're left with is suspicious co-existence and semi regular personality clashes.
@dadegroot I remember going there as a 10 yo on a school trip. Lots of moving and fascinating exhibits, but the real highlight of the trip for me was buying an airfix model Bismarck at the gift shop
@iankenway thank you, and I do semi-regularly! This one's a bit difficult, as it's a media box with a few TB of video that could all be replaced without *too* much effort if needed
@iankenway turns out it was just a file system integrity issue, and fsck brought back everything with minimal effort.
Update: plugged the HDD into a Debian VM on my laptop, couldn't mount the drive, fsck'd it aaaaaaand… everything is fine and back where it should be!
@witchofthenorse I legit read your toot assuming it was building up to a Snorri punchline
