And this is the #LoRaWAN sensor I carry around for testing. It's very power hungry and we found a solution, but eventually we'll have to put that battery back in the lawn mower.
After seven years we're slowly starting to shut down the larger part of our small #RuralBroadband operation. Some of our customers will be completely cut off from the Internet again – they have to cellular range and no fiber. Our not so large infrastructure operator s losing their frequencies to bigger players. Some of our customers now worry that their new operators won't deal with their problems as well as we did. It's nice to hear we did a good job.
And we'll find a better way to mount the mast. Right now it's stuck in a pipe attached to our rainwater tank. That moose bone we found nearby a few years ago is jammed in the pipe and keeps the whole thing stable.
And it's up, ready to gather data from sensors I'll be placing in our wetlands. The 6 metre mast is just for testing, if all works well the device will go much higher.
I got the wong PoE power supply – micro USB instead of USB-C. And that tiny white converter made the whole thing too large to fit. So we had to make a tiny hole for the cable to fit. But had nothing to close the hole with on hand. We did have a cable gland, which gave us enough space for the power cable. A car light bulb was lying around and it was just the right size to plug the cable gland and keep the whole thing relatively waterproof.
Packing the #LoRaWAN gateway in a waterproof enclosure. Yes, there was a good reason to attach that car lamp light bulb to the box.
It looks like our small #RuralBroadband business will be shutting down. Not our fault – bigger players are taking over the frequencies we've been using. Now working hard on making sure our customers have a soft landing. It was fun while it lasted.
For a few years I posted lies about #Polesia on Twitter. Now I'm thinking of resurrecting them here. Many of them were puns in Polish, practically impossible to translate. Some had cultural references that need explanation, but I'm willing to explain them – I have much more space here.
This was the first lie:
Szerszenie próbujące się dostać do butelki z piwem można łatwo odstraszyć naśladując dźwięki polującego nietoperza.
Hornets trying to get inside a bottle of beer can be easily scared of by imitating the sounds of a hunting bat.
