I sat by an election denier on the airplane and he started poking me in the arm to be emphatic about his views on people stealing ballots secretly and the airplane was full and I couldn’t move anywhere so I started explaining the yellow fever in very great detail, all the way down to telling him about the bloody vomit that looks like coffee grounds and it worked. He stopped talking to me. The moral of this story is you can’t out-weird an academic; our toolset is too vast. #vastearlyamerica

I am not a #trekkie, in the sense I don't do dress-up for it. I do like the series and films (as my bio says TNG over Kirk).
But for the first time I have had to buy some bits, like a badge, and tie pin, and cuff links. Yes, it is to go on a dark suit. It is basically down to the fact my aunt was a bit of a trekkie, and is being cremated in a star trek uniform even. This is going to be a slightly more colourful funeral than most. Almost a shame she is not in a photon torpedo housing. 😢

I am not a professional photographer, just someone who takes far too many pictures when out on walks/hikes. (Stone carving is my thing).This is an American Mink. It walked up to me to about 3 feet (1 meter) as if to ask why was I in the woods. It then hustled back to an abandoned Beaver house and continued to check me out. A staring contest! Cute little critter, wish I was that good looking.

I think the shift by the general public to Mastodon may be historically significant beyond just social media because it's a shift away from centralization and back towards distributed services. I'm hoping this trend continues in general for Internet services.

I used to be an annual pass member at Seattle's Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP), and one of the perks was getting to skip ahead of the general admission line for day passes.

Showed up one day to see a new exhibit, and got assaulted by a Karen who was absolutely furious that I "skipped her and her whole family" in the general admission line.

She got escorted away by security in front of her family, and I got a bunch of free shit.

10/10, would skip in line again. Renewing next time I go.
