I'm really proud of my parents for growing this 'meadow' where once there was the most sad patch lawn. I explained the benefits of not mowing your lawn to my dad last year, and he really got into it. In the 2 years they have been in their house they have transformed the most boring patch of lawn into this meadow, lots of fruit trees, and multiple veggie beds.
Possible solution to the mystery of the rapid, parallel, and #sympatric #evolution of #ant #workerless social #parasites (#inquilines): a single #mutation in a #supergene.

I know #Mosstodon is a popular hashtag on here. How about #MossyFrogtodon?
Enjoyed exploring Tennessee Aquarium with the fam this morning in #Chattanooga
let me clarify: all accidents are caused by people. i merely hold that they are almost never caused by the people to whom they happen, and so should you
they’re caused by somebody negligently choosing to allow an unsafe condition to exist, and into which somebody, usually somebody else, later enters and is then harmed by being there
Incidentally, if anyone hasn't heard already, llama.cpp is the real deal: near-GPT quality text prediction running on your laptop's CPU.
Hi! 👋
I’m in contact with “Tassdert Youth Association for Development and Cooperation” in Morocco. The region is facing water shortages, so that the trees are dying out.🏜 The organisation wants to install a solar-driven water pump, to get water to the trees. 🌳
The association has partnered up with Resilient Communities and are now looking for funding.💰 Support the project via https://www.resilient-communities.com/support-us (see a short video there 🎞!). I just donated money to the project, and hope you can do the same!
This is what happens when oil oligarchs purchase a state government.
With wind and solar now cheaper than fossil fuels, politicians intervene to force all Texans to pay for expensive, polluting gas.
Story by KUT’s Mose Buchele, who does excellent reporting on Texas energy issues:

I think the #BBC would do well to consider what Elie #Wiesel said about #Neutrality, and consider that the same principles apply to concepts like #Impartiality. #GaryLineker
Tiny rant: US-/North America-centrism is so pervasive on the English-language Internet. People are quick to describe a plant or animal in a post as "invasive" without knowing where the photo was taken. I'm like, *where do you think it is native to?* Mars? ಠ___ಠ
I just saw a user assuming a planarian they found was invasive because that's what North Americans automatically parrot. They were in its native range. ![]()
What if extraterrestrial civilizations exist, but they are not so utopian as some SF writers are trying to sell them to us, but they struggle as we, humans on Earth do. And if they finally reach the technological level barely allowing them the interstellar travel and communication with sub-light speed, the civilizations crumble because of social inequality and environmental damage.
Another highlight from Nisqually for #marshMadness - Western meadowlark taking off! Got this photo just in time before the little guy disappeared.

Living in the #wetlands of #Polesia (#Polesie in Polish) in #EasternPoland. Surrounded by #bogs and #forests, trying not to fuck up surrounding nature too much.
