My wife picks up fragments when I ramble. Today they discussed WiFi issues at the school she teaches at, and she said “It’s always DNS!” #proudHusband #superwife
When you smell rain, you are smelling this molecule: geosmin. It also contributes to the distinctive aromas of fish, beans, and beets...and it turns out to be useful for drawing mosquitoes into traps. https://www.acs.org/molecule-of-the-week/archive/g/geosmin.html #rain #chemistry
@PaulMurphy Definitely (the brown one on the upper right is the one further down the road in the previous pic)
Hello world! Elon Musk picking a twitter fight with Icelandic philanthropist and man of the year 2022 Haraldur Thorleifsson ended up being the final push that we needed, so now we are here on Mastodon. We don't know how any of this works, but follow us for posts on vision science, cognitive psychology, cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience, and stupid memes.
Only one Polish act has reached the top 50 of the US Billboard album chart. But if you asked Poles who it was, most probably wouldn't know.
The answer is BEHEMOTH!, who hail from a Polish extreme metal scene that has achieved huge international success despite relatively little mainstream attention or state support.

This terrific photo was taken by my grandfather around 1935. It shows my mother and her brother, with a small owl.
They often shared their home with injured wild birds that were being rehabilitated by their father. Mergansers or storks in the bathtub where not unusual.
Those birds that didn't survive were stuffed, used in teaching, and for many years afterwards were on display in the local museum.
I don't know the fate of this owl, but most survived & were released. #bird #birding #owl
I'm still looking for a job. Anybody need a programmer in the San Francisco Bay area? I'm a python programmer with experience in C/C++/Java/JS, I've done a bunch of CI/CD/SRE in the recent years, lots of tooling and back end web dev, and I've got a good deal of amateur experience doing reverse engineering and embedded development.
(I've done devops work but I'm trying to move away from that because too often it turns into just "ops", and I am a programmer.)
@bhawthorne Mixed. When I toot about "our dogs, #IdąPsięta, exploring #wetlands of #Polesia" it seems natural to put hashtags inline. When I toot "Dogs having fun in mud" I put hashtags as a footnote. I expect #HashtagPolice to appear at my door every dawn.
Hashtags. Where do they belong? In-line in the text or appended at the end? It’s a matter of preference clearly, since there seems to be a pretty even split in my timeline.
My preference is for end-note style hashtags. Why?
1. For many of us with vision or visual processing issues, interspersing hashtags throughout the post makes it harder to read and comprehend.
2. For people relying on screen readers, interspersed hashtags means hearing the word hashtag over and over again while listening to your post.
3. I like end-notes.
So, what’s your preference? Tell us why in the comments.

Just came across Terry Bisson's "They're Made Out of Meat" and this wonderful little short film that was made from it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6JFTmQCFHg&t=371s.
Drawing and painting birds are my most favorite pastime. the original photo by @BathNature

Living in the #wetlands of #Polesia (#Polesie in Polish) in #EasternPoland. Surrounded by #bogs and #forests, trying not to fuck up surrounding nature too much.
Taking care of a small pack of #dogs (most of them rescue dogs) – #IdąPsięta.
#RuralBroadband provider by accident. Starting a small #LoRaWAN project to monitor our wetlands. Coding, mostly in #Python. Luddite.
#Atheist. I don't believe in #science – science is our defence against belief.
Fuck nazis.
I check facts before I toot.
I sometimes toot in Polish.
Zdolny, ale leniwy.
