You know the drill by now. I don't like talking about Black history. Americans know Black history. I want to talk about white American history. In other words, racism, and the erasure of both positive achievements of, and injustices suffered by, non-white people. That's what people don't know.

Try this: Ask your white US friends what the statue of liberty celebrates.

Now ask your Black friends. Or French folk of any color.

What things should be taught in primary school because life would be a little bit easier if everyone learned them?

I'll go first... sunk cost fallacy. Imagine if everyone over the age of 5 just knew about that, with a cute story and a song to remind us how silly it is to keep pouring effort and resources into something that clearly isn't working.

Yesterday I took apart a pair of secateurs, removed the rust, cleaned them, oiled them, and sharpened the blades.

My dad's stereo comes with a circuit diagram in a little pouch when you open it, so you can more easily identify and replace components.

Clothing is *supposed* to come apart at the seams, because seams can be restitched with almost no loss of quality, unlike a fabric tear that needs to be patched.

Having items that are actively hostile to repair is a very, very modern trend.

It's kinda amazing that the hardest problem I've ever enjoyed solving involved wood grain and not a computer

Good morning, the empty bookshelves in Florida schools keep my head busy, since I'm a teacher with a library in my classroom in Berlin myself. That's a history lesson in front of our very eyes and exactly how fascism started in Germany. Books were banned and then burnt and everyone said, well, I can't do anything, I don't want to loose my job, I don't like it, but... Many little steps were made by many little people who didn't stand up against a new little rule. You know how this ends.

The final photo of this foggy salt marshes wander. Heading back inland to higher ground, I take one last look over this unique landscape on this foggy morning.
