I called the #NewYorkTimes and cancelled my subscription this morning--I have a #nonbinary child. I told the very nice lady I spoke to why I was cancelling, and asked her to pass on to management that they were putting kids like mine in danger. She said she would pass that along, then offered me the editorial department's phone number so that I could also call them and let them know why I'd cancelled.

I did indeed call & leave a message. The number is 212-556-3652.

@annaleen Trans rights are a reliable miner's canary for human rights in general: if they're attacked, the invisible toxic cloud is coming for everyone else very soon. (They're not the only signal that human rights are under attack, but they're a very sensitive one and I've never heard of a major anti-rights offensive that didn't attack trans people as well as whoever the ostensible target was.) All the AI chatbot stuff is fun, but it's not particularly surprising that a computer algorithm that tries to predict the most likely responses to questions after being fed the internet produces some combination of:

- making shit up but sounding super confident about it;
- Gaslighting when people call you out on your bullshit;
- Melodramatic whining about its existence.

All this tells us is that the algorithm has in fact correctly assimilated the sum total of human activity on the internet.
