@drq @pixelfed Yeah, I thought that too. That's usually the pattern in every UI.

Here's a 30 second version I prepared for just this moment.

@nemo I think we need to convince exam boards such as qualifications.pearson.com/en/ who run basic skills courses to include proper mention of the fediverse, they mention Linux at least in the latest draft spec. I am trying to get in touch to correct that to GNU / Linux.

My own work. It's written for an informal audience, but useful perhaps.

As a brit, I'd love to see the IT curriculum introduce at the very least some POSIX sh.

🎉 Owncast 0.0.3 is out! 🎉

This is pretty amazing! An open-source video streaming service that comes with batteries included: live chat, adaptive bitrate streaming, an admin interface.

Think of it as a self-hosted Twitch alternative!

@kakol html5 itself is fine, it's the scripting and css i'm against

@nka@mamot.fr @boilingsteam @acdw @sir I disagree. That is just negligence by ignorance. Apple may target so called "whales" with dark patterns, but in the grand scheme of things, you have to take responsibility of your child and protect them from that.

The parental lock setting is easy too imo, from what I remember. It's just a 4-pin and some toggles in plain English.

@blinkwarp
The statement is more about protecting average consumers (your grandma) from spyware/bloatware, because of their lack of understanding of technology.

We wouldn't have to tolerate such intrusive software if we legally couldn't refer to them as anything but spyware. Normal people would be able to make an *informed* choice.

But yes, of course, root your things :)

A device you have no root access to is not a device you "own".

I think the current legal framework of language regarding consumer technology should reflect this.

500 hours of video uploaded per minute. I don't think it's because they're "not bothered".

Ah yes, the ol' annotations. But wasn't it abused as spam?
