And the one-line winner for downloading a list of URLs is `parallel wget < moira.html`, credit to blob.cat/objects/be683b98-3ce6 @icedquinn

The nature of the URLs produced a list of files with useless names. But a little refactoring and regexp of the source list and then an , and they were all renamed sensibly.

@icedquinn I was unaware of parallel. I installed it, blinked, and the process was done!

I have a big list of URLs to files. What's the easiest way to download all of them?

@ljrk leiningen uses the Maven store, but the interface is better

There’s a new item in the content context menu in Nightly #Firefox that lets you copy URLs to the clipboard, but with known tracking parameters stripped.

@zrzz That is an excellent idea! In fact, hooks indeed sound like a likely culprit, the sort of thing that accumulates over emacs run time. Next time I have the slowdown, I will definitely do the profiler

Hi K-9 Mail community! This is a reminder that we'll be retiring this account next month, when K-9 Mail transforms into #Thunderbird for #Android.

So please go follow @thunderbird to stay in touch and get future updates. Thanks for being on this journey with us!

(YES, Thunderbird for Android will be on @fdroidorg)

If you missed the news, here's the original announcement: blog.thunderbird.net/2022/06/r

And here's where to find our monthly development updates: blog.thunderbird.net/category/

@ericsfraga yeah, my own issue rarely crops up. I just restarted my exwm (and recovered most of my tabs) and so far we are back to snappiness

@dangillmor @indivisibleteam

That was great review for my casual, not corporate previous leaving of X.

@indivisibleteam is leaving the deadbird site, eloquently: We’re stepping back from the increasingly dangerous and dysfunctional ‘X’, and we’re sorry it’s taken this long" --

@ericsfraga I don't use FlySpell, but FireFox is my main browser, too. But then wouldn't killing all my Firefox buffers probably fix the lag? I have tried that; I wonder if they make some additions to the WM state (is that even a thing?). I have also noticed if I leave them open and connected to a long running REPL for browser-interactive developing it can cause problems, but I chalk that up to a process getting long in the tooth in its browser usage..

@dekkzz76@emacs.ch (version pinning is a very common idea in package managers, apparently, so my response probably didn't do the topic justice)

@daviwil Just for the record, since I watch twitch and other platforms I have started using libredirect to point to privacy-friendly versions of those sites; this has the effect that it might not count me as a viewer, and also I cannot participate in the chat on the video. But other than those, it works great SafeTwitch). So, I am watching -- but you might not know it

@dekkzz76@emacs.ch just the opposite, actually. There are some high-usage packages that, wisely or not, make some semi-breaking alpha changes on their main branch, and I need to lock myself to a stable one.

🔴 Today on #SystemCrafters Live, we'll investigate a few options for improving the IRC experience so that more people might be able to join us there! The Matrix Libera.Chat bridge shutdown has been pretty tragic, let's try to address that.

Also, today we're experimenting with streaming *ONLY on Twitch*! No YouTube stream today. Let me know what you think!

I was thinking of finding a new package manager that allows easier version-pinning than does Straight.el. Rabbit hole; read through a big reddit thread on this topic from 7 months ago and realized now is not the time. Maybe I'll come back to this later; for now Straight is good enough.

One simple Mastodon message about a #Python print()-trick I discovered recently and the evolving thread surprises me with one golden nugget after another.

Thanks!

@tfb does that preempt graphical things, like my browser? Sometimes I have to switch to a system terminal with eg `C-M f2` to debug something breaking my emacs, but I don't believe I can get a GUI app up from there
