Network effect can't be reduced to "how many people use a service". What should also be considered is *who* is using a service.
For the past 5 years, there's been a mass movement of devs to the Fediverse.
At first, it was just FOSS devs.
But then retro computing enthusiasts popped in. Then CTOs.
It's got to the point where, if you're a respectable dev, I'm going to ask to connect with you on the Fediverse.
Yeah just doesn't look good to have it not updated, since 20021 though but i understand what you have said here.
A newly published study in Nature suggests that the constitution of you gut biome could have an impact on your neurological performance and susceptibility to degenerative diseases like #Alzheimers.
Take it with a grain of salt as it's an #InMice, but the results could eventually lead to methods of affecting brain chemistry without having to hurdle the BBB.

If that is their NEW website it has not been updated since 2021, they have a blog post that new site is live so the absence of link suggests this is their new site too.
As a techie, not remotely impressed, no wonder they are having issues.
I bet they pay the web site person more than £11 an hour.
Neutron imaging revealed the secrets of this gold-plated medieval pendant
"In 2008, archaeologists excavating a medieval refuse pit in Mainz, Germany, discovered a heavily corroded pendant likely made in the late 12th century. But they were loath to open the pendant to find out what might be inside, lest they damage an already fragile artifact. Now technology has come to the rescue."
Bed-blocking crisis 'not going away' in Cornwall

Just caught part of a BBC news report on the NHS, socal care has a recruitment crisis, but it seems workers are paid min wage £9.50. Given the work they do, level of responsibility they deserve a lot more.
As a teaching assistant I earn MORE, as do workers at supermarkets and elsewhere. No wonder there is a recruitment crisis, We need to change our attitude to these workers and see them as highly skilled, valuable members of the NHS and community care workforce.
#Reproductive success usually increases when a male mates with more females; a new #PLOSBiology study by @TimJanicke &co shows the same is true for females. Here, @kokkonutter & @Mikejennions explore why this is... Paper: https://plos.io/3X2ALyt Primer: https://plos.io/3QNSaJ3
THIS! Was in my mail today (thanks @Raspberry_Pi@raspberrypi.social for amazingly fast shipping to the Continent!), and went straight on my To Read list here. Can't wait to delve into it!
(comment on "The Computers That Made Britain")
No problem, lets see if anyone can help with this. I am sure there are conferences.,
I remember this, these things were pretty hard hitting back then, had to be to get the message across.
Hi Eden, this looks really interesting,
https://talkingpicturestv.co.uk/
has lots of content like this too.
The @spacetelescope do public lectures which are really good, I am sure there are others, we just need to get the word out about them

This is interesting as one of the courses, does cover the different people involved in bullying so you have the victim, and the bully (or bullies) but there are also other people who perhaps are there, hear / see what is going on and don't act, they are also part of the solution in that we need to help them to intervene in the correct way OR ask for help to do so.
If nothing else they are witnesses to what is going on, one thing you could do is walk up to the victim, talk to them and try to get them to go with you, away from the situation they are in, that way you are removing the isolation.
It is about confidence, you and the group you are with could ask the bully to stop then take the victim away somewhere safer.
I will need to read up on my notes, but getting involved does require some degree of confidence, and assertiveness on the part of the bystander.
So the course highlights different people
Reenforcer
defender
Ringleader
Assistant
Target
Outsider
It is a complex issue, hence it is suggested a whole school approach, teachers need to listen and act, (as they would in a safeguarding disclosure or concern situation) I would assume teachers in the US are trained in child protection and report concerns about a child or act if a child tells them something.
@Jaden2 I'm not sure if this blog post qualifies or not. Share if you'd like, or don't if it doesn't work for you. But thank you for doing this, regardless. https://donnacavalier.com/should-i-just-keep-my-mouth-shut-rambling-thoughts-on-bravery/
I am pretty solidly on board with the public-private partnership behind many pharma success stories.
But Moderna’s ridiculous proposed markup of a Covid vaccine, when development was subsidized by taxpayers, is reprehensible.
They are proposing a price as high as $130 per dose, when it costs less than $3 to make.
The young star is AU Mic, a nearby red dwarf star with 2 known planets. Webb’s images allowed the science team to trace the disk as close to the star as 5 astronomical units (460 million miles) — the equivalent of Jupiter’s orbit in our solar system.

The ultimate goal for studying systems like AU Mic is to use Webb’s unprecedented sensitivity to observe giant planets in wide orbits, similar to Jupiter & Saturn in our own solar system. Webb’s observations mark new, uncharted territory for direct imaging around low-mass stars.
