Not only should we put every damned banned book back into every school library in America, we should put CIVICS classes back into every American classroom. We need to teach our young citizens PRIDE in our democracy instead of the cynicism conservatism has preached.

@hedders

Indeed, tjis also gives staff the flexibility to dress according to their health, as long as people look decent who cares.

My argument is if you are say a web designer, and I need a website, when we meet to discuss you look professional, and you can expect the same from me being the client. What you choose to wear when you make the website is up to you, you could wear a expensive dinnner jacket or nothing at all, who cares as long as the job is done properly, if working from home, dress code becomes even more non important and probably reflects the current conditions so in 35c heat, you wear less.

@zleap Back when I worked in the City, the dress code was a single sentence: "Dress for your day". People were trusted to exercise their own judgment, and they did. Not sure there's any kind of slippery slope or Daily Mail-style "whatever next?" argument here. Generally, if you trust people to be sensible, they are.

@keke
The janitors should be paid properly, in the absence of janitorial staff, the management are perfectly capable of using cleaning equipment, perhaps after a day or two of having to clear up, they will then make an effort to also treat the janitorial staff better, and of course pay them more.

if a CEO doesn’t show up for 3 months, it’s called a sabbatical and business operates completely normally without issue. if the janitorial staff doesn’t show up for 3 months, the business can no longer function. so who should be getting paid more?

In which case we can probably deduce someone decided to cut corners from start to finish of this transport operation, I think in general there are strict rules on handling all substances, depending on their hazard level. They are there to be followed not ignored due to some time or financial constraint.

Needs to be investigated, those who failed held to account, retrained or sacked. So that this won't happen again. What if next time it is a more dangerous substance. ?

do they normally put a radioactive source on a truck without any box or anything, like, what

@schfinkes @Jaden2@mstdn.social

I found watching the football movie Remember The Titans, helped open my eyes to what was happening in the US. But is still happening now, so it does in a small way help me to understand.

It is sad that things have not progressed much in 50 years.

@Jaden2 I was born in 1957 in Texas. While I don’t remember segregated schools, I do remember the “white side” and “other” side of the small city cemetery. I never understood it, even as a small child. I was religious, and believed the souls had gone to heaven, so what was the big deal with dead bodies being next to each other. I was older when I realized that it was the visitors, the living, that whites didn’t want to be near. All these years, and I still want to cry.

@jackiegardina @twitterreject @thejenniwren @JenX

Agreed, and they know this so how long before school boards are replaced with the minions who will do the bidding of these republicans ?

@twitterreject @thejenniwren @JenX We need the community to stand up. We need people to run for the school board, we need people to vote, we need people to show up at every school board meeting, we need people to speak out publicly. We won’t reverse these efforts remaining silent.

@VRubinObs

Sounds good to me, hopefully this will influence more people to take up Astronomy, esp those in under-represented communities.

It's hard to break it to four-year-olds that their best years are behind them but they're going to find out sooner or later.

#UMPlus - The uncertain history of NGC 6

Theoretically NGC 6 is a lenticular galaxy located in the direction of the Andromeda Constellation. Six significant galaxies appear in this image from the Digited Sky Survey, NGC 13 is a spiral galaxy located at a distance of about 220 million light-years from the Milky Way that was discovered by William Herschel on November 26, 1790. NGC 19 is a incorrectly listed spiral and.....

On that topic, what was the punishment for insurrection during the civil war ? I am asking this as according to the panel who decided if Trump was guilty of insurrection, said this had not happened since the civil war, which could open up the possibility the law and punishment has not been looked at since. Could trump face the firing squad ?

@laureen1allen @georgetakei

What is more sickening appears to be the lack of media coverage.
Granted I from the UK, it may not be that important to our news outlets, but this is part of a much bigger picture that is of international importance.

HSBC staff get a uniform of jumpsuits and jeans

While I don't have a problem with this in principle, so ethnic clothing, or menopause friendly clothing etc. Where are the boundaries?, for example if a naturist wanted to wear nothing at all, due to their lifestyle would that be permissible.
