Well, looks like it is time for the FSF to do the main thing it is charity money is used for, suing companies that cross them.
Trumps "social" network is probably violating at least one FLOSS license.
Mastodon is licensed AGPL so any source code modifications must be made available under the AGPL. Proprietary source code modifications that are kept from the public are a big no-no.

@zleap I was thinking the same, but not sure we need his followers on here
Mastodon's Founder Says Trump's New Social Network Is Just Mastodon
'Truth Social', which will launch officially later in the year, is seemingly using Mastodon's codebase without credit.
Former President Donald Trump’s new social network ’Truth Social’ is seemingly a thinly disguised fork of popular social network codebase Mastodon.
Its terms also say that “all source code” of Truth Social is proprietary. That might run afoul of Mastodon’s own license.
“The main thing is that Mastodon is free software, released under the AGPLv3 license, so anyone can use it—provided they comply with the license. The main part of the license is making the source code and any modifications to it available to the public,” Rochko told Motherboard. With Truth Social saying that its code is proprietary “that would be a problem, as that would indicate a license violation,” Rochko added.

FEDIBLOCK NOW
Trump's new social network is preparing to launch... look familiar?
I advise you get on blocking the below domains.
You knew it was going to happen.
Boost it far and wide!
@thor @freundTech @abloo @dashie @piggo some clown set up a mastodon instance and claimed it was trumps and because nobody on twitter fact checks anything it just spread like wildfire. that’s not his site and i would highly recommend not signing up to it
According to the BBC news Donald Trumpis launching his own social nedia platform tRUTH Social
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-58990330
I just wondered if this was an independent platform or perhaps just an instance on fedi?
Early days yet but asking here as I am more likely to find people + clue when it comes to the actual technology behind this.
I am sure Donald Trump would be at least aware of Decentralised social media and tech back ends such as Activity pub
@zleap They probably have a plan to handle this relatively smoothly like some sort of redirect or something.
The Conservancy's argument is that free software users *also* have standing to enforce the GPL, because a failure to comply with the GPL harms them. They call this "Community-Oriented GPL Enforcement."
https://sfconservancy.org/copyleft-compliance/principles.html
And because the Conservancy's goal is to create a bigger commons, they have pre-committed to refusing cash settlements - they will settle for full GPL compliance, and nothing less.

Vizio's free ride is over. The nonprofit Software Freedom Conservancy has filed suit against Vizio to force it to comply with the GPL - and this legal challenge has the potential to change the game for GPL enforcement in a profound way.
https://sfconservancy.org/copyleft-compliance/vizio.html
You see, the Conservancy isn't suing on behalf of the copyright holders whose code Vizio is illegally using - it's suing on behalf of the *users* of free software who are injured by Vizio's attack on the commons.

If Facebook does change it's name won't that mean that the millions of people on that platform will have to change links etc on websites and other places (brochures, marketing materials etc) to point to the new profile.
Given the amount of money people spend doing this, they are perhaps going to be very very angry about it
This presents us as a fediverse a massive opportunity to promote fedi as an alternative and perhaps a small window to get people on here instead.
After all you own instance is your own, no one else is going to decide to just the name to suit them
Power to the users
I tend to keep a lot of reminders about system/network maintance I need to do. Things that are every few weeks or months like updating the system or renewing certs.
Sometimes I find that there is a bit of a mental hurdle to do a task when it comes in. Even though its not much it can feel daunting when you dont remember the exact steps and need to pull up a how-to again or remember where you stored your notes, if you even have any.
So what im doing now is when i create a reminder I actually copy and paste the step-by step instructions from the documentation into the comments itself. So when the reminder comes in I literally just copy and paste them into a terminal, hit enter, and im done.
I also add the links to the documentation and my personal notes in the reminder itself. That way if something doesnt go as planed I dont need to start digging around for the complete instructions, its all right there for me.
This has cut down my procrastination significantly. Instead of waiting a day or two and maybe forgetting to do the task at all I now have it over and done with after like 5 minutes max from seeing the alert.
Someone took his pulse (a fellow cop) and informed him there was no pulse and he seemed dead, insisting he needed help. His body was limp. There is no conceivable way you can justify his actions following that. Even if there is an off chance the police officer was wrong, your just grasping at straws at that point. When someone is unconscious and your told they have no pulse, your priority as a cop is to help the person, espcially considering this is a person who was not being arrested for any acts of violence of any kind.
Not true, and wouldnt even be relevant if it were true. Sitting on a dead persons chest for 4 minutes after they die refusing people to do CPR is more than daming enough regardless of if he suffocated him or not, which he did.
jail as a form of punishment is not at all effective at preventing crime really. There is a much bigger effect in preventing crime by simply providing good living conditions for the population and good mental health access.
