Hi everybody! New here at #stereophonic, tried #mastodon and #misskey, now I'm very keen in learning about the #pleroma part of the #fediverse.

If you're going to post about sensitive subjects please use a CW (Content warning) feature. So people have the choice of seeing it.

Additionally, please do not use an asterisk (*) in words to censor them to evade text search. Mastodon doesn't have a search for text in toots and it messes with filters people have in place.

There are about a dozen really bad actors, once you block those servers you cover the bulk of the content. Works well. The main reason we **dont** block servers was at the LGBTQ's communities request. At the time Milo was on Gab and they used accounts here to follow him so they could see when he doxxed someone and use it to warnt he community (as was the norm at the time and a big deal). In fact its why we added the subscribe feature, specifically so they could follow people without being identifiable as doing so.

Its one reason we dont block, its like putting blocks in a web browser, it hurts the victims too.

I’m a freelance journalist who mostly writes about #nature, #animals, and our #environment through the lens of #science and #ideas. (I am also on Team Oxford Comma.)

At the moment I’m in the home stretch of Meet the Neighbors, my book for W. W. Norton about what animal personhood — understanding them as fellow thinking, feeling beings — means for nature.

Someone just came to me with an idea and I kinda like it and are willing to do it but I want your opinion first!

Many people are following the 'famous' from Twitter to Mastodon but are having a hard time finding them..

I just bought the domain 'officials.social' and I could setup and invite only instance for more 'high profile' people so to say so everyone can more easily find them?

Look, does anyone remember Usenet?

You could run your own group. You could join any groups. It was up to your local Usenet admin which groups were carried at your site (usually a university or government domain) and how widely your local groups got promoted.

It was also up to you/your admin what you DIDN'T see in your usenet feed. Lots of sites didn't carry alt.sex.*, for example.

If your're old enough, "the fediverse" is kinda familiar.
