I program computers, and I can make some solid recommendations about what kind of hardware you'd need for certain applications, but I still feel overwhelmed picking out modern processors among the options available for, like, playing video games. The names don't mean anything to me, so I have to look at specs, but also I don't really know what's good for the probability distribution of modern games I might like. Also, I'm *definitely* overthinking this, like most choices about what things to buy.

battery holds a charge, but only just barely. cuts out after only a few songs. also, this thing doesn't seem to be very serviceable: I tried taking apart the last one I had and got the power button jammed.

Hi folks,

A colleague of mine is running a survey on Sustainability in Software Practices.

If you are a "software practitioner", it would be great if you could complete it.

Thanks, and boosts welcome!

@vib like, sauces aren't difficult to make... just publish a recipe

@Eternal_Cringe hmm. I'm lawful neutral at home and chaotic neutral at work. dunno how chaotic it is though... I just have three portrait orientation for chat and email

@soup_reviews i can relate to that. what seems to work for me (if anything works) is keeping my various projects in a state where I can hop in, make a little progress, then hop back out. I can't throw myself into my latest obsession for weeks the way I did in my teens and early twenties, so having bite sized pieces means I can still enjoy things when the fancy strikes me and have it not feel like a waste

f*king Sansa Clip player still works bby!
even holds a charge
I almost want to by another of these. used to run all around campus with this thing

@soup_reviews yeah I was doing a bit. doesn't really translate.

i was thinking of going to a hacking convention. I've only ever been to one and it's been years since then

You may have noticed I've been less active here, and that's intentional. Having thousands of followers on multiple social media accounts is exhausting for someone as introverted as me, and for various reasons I've just needed a bit of a break from feeling like I need to maintain my online "persona".

Lots of in-person activities lately have left my social meter expended so I'm trying to refill that in time for JWST data excitement in less than a month!

I heard a bang from my neighbors yard and soon it dawned on me that a sleepless night is in my future

Recommendations wanted: cross platform relational database app.

I used HandBase for over a decade, starting with my palm pilot! It was a lightweight & powerful, intuitive app that made it easy to create relational databases that could either sync w/Access or its own desktop version.

It hasn't updated in years. Likely abandoned.

Anyone know of a similar product that will sync b/w android & windows?

I loathe software-as-a-service & would rather just pay for a program.

(Boosts welcome!)

I'm sure you love astronomical images taken with professional telescopes. But do you know what it takes to actually make them? You'll be surprised by how many people are involved!

I just wrote an article explaining the whole process, from the moment an astronomer has an idea to when you see the final result.
