I just canceled an Amazon Prime Video channel, and they do have the option to turn-off auto-renewal during the normal subscription, but I'm not sure they wouldn't continue service and still bill you just without charging your card, though that seems rather sneaky.

I just *do not* understand how modes relate to actually playing music. I'm reading this https://liveukulele.com/lessons/theory/modes-on-the-ukulele/ and it talks about how you "end" or "start" on this or that note and that makes it in one mode or another...? I start on whatever note I start on and I don't just play notes in a given order. It really feels like there's some fundamental disconnect between how I think of playing and how music theorists want to describe it

i think a lot about that passage in Dawn (Butler, 1987) where Lilith is wandering around and drops an orange peel on the ground and damages the local flora by doing that. every time I hear something about how humans ham-handedly or accidentally introduced invasive species or just don't bother to think about how our products will work back into the earth

I was really annoyed by this BBC commentary on Iraqi women getting cosmetic surgery. they talked to the surgeon who described this as an empowering thing for these women to change their appearance, then this Western commentator tosses out some decontextualized nonsense about late stage capitalism. like, maybe acknowledge that these women have some agency? that the guy who's talking to these women on a daily basis could have some insight? I get it that you want women to feel powerful however they look and maybe society injects this preference for youth, but also implying it's bad and wrong for these women to want to control their images and decide on what *they* want to see in the mirror is pretty shitty as well
