@FF777 It might have been fake. It was on Reddit a long time ago and I have cherished it for many years.
@thor In the US you would be greeted as Mister or Sir. I knew an Engineer from Norway and they had mostly good things to say about that area (Deep South). One of the most unexpected things he said was how warm the culture was. Being reserved isn't ignored, it's respected.
The pictures painted by others won't reflect how we will see the same thing. It leads to a very distorted view of the world. Millage may vary.
@thor Americans don't trust their government much less get on their knees to please said government.
If Americans weren't outspoken on politics, we wouldn't have survived. From the beginning of the nation to the present day it has been a protection against tyranny.
We had a massive Nazi Party before their counterparts in Europe started invading countries. It was political outrage that resulted in them being hunted down like the rats they were.
Even with death threats from the government, it's very difficult to make Americans shut up. The day our politics become tame is going to be the end of our Union.

@Amikke I mean it's not uncommon to encounter people bumping uglies in a bathroom stall. Or through the hole between them. I like to keep a pokey tool handy in bathrooms. I don't wanna play that game.
@skells It sounds like a fun place.
@igelsQTs Not much of one. They were known to require several shots to bring someone down. They were really good for pistol whipping when out of rounds. Actually very effective at that.
If you miss the Skyline don't worry, Hyundai has something that looks like it. I'm not joking, the eco box manufacturer just pulled something that looks like a better Z car and another model that looks like the old Skyline. The body that came before the 34?
They apparently are both capable of delivering tofu by moonlight. Hyundai when did you get so freaky? I might be a fan now.
@igelsQTs 38 Special detective style I believe. The barrel isn't long enough for 357 Magnum and it's not a snub-nosed revolver. Easy to carry and got off shots faster than pulling a full size auto. That's very similar to what American Police used a few decades ago. I think they are used in Japan still.
@PawelK It's true. I remember rootkits the school used to spy on students. Easy to fill up that buffer and easy to kill that process by accident.
A teacher told me I couldn't do it so I did it. It just showed a malfunction on their screen and we both had a good laugh. I believe it used DRM controls to do some of the work. The system had to be restarted for the rootkit to load back in as it was just broken and not triggered. Perhaps it was later used to freeze the monitor program in the labs with the help of friends. Good times lol.
@inference The Falklands.
@thor The quality of one's work is the sales and contact network. People refer to others if they are pleased with the work and value.
@thor It was my obligation to ensure that the students in the labs were following rules and being safe. It was a disciplined environment that put people under a lot of stress. I haven't been to a Maker Space or Hacker Space. These were laboratories at a University for the purpose of undergraduate research.
There were very few carefree moments. I was involved with 3 labs. People looked to me for help and I don't regret any of it. I had a seizure in one from stress and no one found me or if they did they didn't help. I've seen people crying in those labs.
It's a different environment.

Political stance is far right and far left. Proponent of First Aid Kits and PPE. Easily disheartened by big tech. Partially hinged personality and stubborn enough to not write this in the First Person.
