I am considering adding the following phrasing to QOTO's ToC.. Before I do I'd like some feedback from the community

> While QOTO aims to provide a community where our users do not fear being punished for their personal opinions, that does not mean we allow people to disseminate ideologies that are abusive or violent towards others. Demonstrating support for or defending ideologies known to be violent or hateful is a bannable offense. This includes, but is not limited to: racial supremacy, anti-LGBTQ or anti-cis-gender/anti-straight, pro-genocide, child abuse or child pornography, etc. While we allow questions and conversation regarding these topics in general, doing so in bad faith will result in immediate expulsion.

@trinsec @khird

@Summerhousejo yay! Welcome!

I found it very confusing at first. I’ve downloaded Metatext and it seems to work well. Search finds people often before you finish their name.
The star thing is a sort of personal “like” but it doesn’t effect the visibility for others. The reblog/retoot/retweet thing is called “boosting”. It’s the only way (I think) to raise the profile of a toot (tweet).
There is a distinct lack of nastiness here.

I joined this site a fortnight ago today.

I did not have a clue how it worked, or about its lore and culture.

Now, it seems intuitive - though not because I am adept but because networks and protocols are familiar and practical things.

We use them all the time: www, mobiles, emails, etc.

And this place is structured to encourage calm civility.

It was Twitter which was strange and, in many ways, inhumane - rewarding clicks and rage and vileness.

We just got used to it.

And now we are out.

Every time I see 20+ users sign up in a matter of a few minutes I instantly think "What dumbass shit did Musk do now..."

@freemo @MrsDi @EubieDrew I, also, spent more time than was probably healthy searching for the right place to land here on Mastodon. If that's the price, then that's the price. Meet The Dude, commonly called Dudely by the kids.

@smtibor I joined Soto.org and get lots of educational stuff. Perhaps not perfect for didactic stuff but a great community.

This just won't feel like home until we get a good linear probability model vs. logistic regression debate going. Here's a poll to prime the pump:

BLOGPOST Hierarchies vs networks in the age of Musk and Mastodon

@freemo is there a way to contribute (financially) to the running of this instance? I don’t know the etiquette yet.

UK Politics; PMQs

“I obviously regret appointing someone who has had to resign in these circumstances” has pretty strong “I’m sorry you caught me cheating” vibes, doesn’t it?

The Irk and Vex rule

@gem_abbott @davidallengreen it’s very neat that the warning is inherited by replies. The more I use this site the more I like it.
