Relativity Space just posted this photo on Twitter and I am AGHAST at how beautiful it is. (If you're wondering why the flame is part blue, the answer is methane/liquid oxygen fuel. Video coming on this later today!)

For the people who have advocated fruitlessly for years for the US to have any substantial data privacy law, it has to feel like gaslighting to see the country's national security apparatus finally focus on what TikTok collects and then conclude the answer is to ban that one app.

Most folks I know who are worried about AI aren’t worried about these programs becoming self aware and oppressing us. That’s not a thing. We’re worried about all the ways these systems will ramp up existing inequalities and further obliterate our shared reality as human beings. That’s already happening.

@lckrohjr Only if you include the [at]instance part after in your original post. The tags are *not* clickable to me (see below). Also, when I search the accounts, I do not find them on their own.

However, if I search for the full account *at the instance name*, then I can find it. That's why I mentioned the above.

@lckrohjr Uh, which server? Usernames alone are meaningless on the fediverse.

Woke up to a bunch of banging and thumping around this morning and I finally get outside to discover that my roof is currently home to a group of ducks.

@mmasnick Mandatory beheadings for sushi terrorists, people who talk during the movies, and anyone who uses the word "irregardless"!

@megansmolenyak Oh, totally. This is just a pet peeve of mine. If the "enhancements" actually lose or obfuscate data from the source, then the original should be used instead, especially when using the images to illustrate historical points. I.e. if enough pictures are shown of dinosaurs with scales, then dinosaurs with feathers look ridiculous and unbelievable.

@megansmolenyak So they did... It's also worth asking why the colorizers thought so many folks in the 19th century wore purple...

@megansmolenyak Why does he look like he has the face of a middle-aged woman? This looks like a bad AI image, not a historical picture.

@Nick_Craver Sounds like somebody had a mystery bug and just started throwing everything the internet mentioned at it.

@matthewmuses @jeffjarvis To be fair, the audiences for the games can be just as toxic. The key, in either case, is apparently to surround oneself with loving supportive peers instead of hanging one's ego out to be beaten by the whims of internet strangers.

Rep. Burgess Owens is set to lead a congressional hearing on the Biden administration's "unlawful" student loan forgiveness program.

Owens, who has filed for bankruptcy protection multiple times, said "debt cannot be canceled" #utpol

@jeremydebose @ThinkingSapien I really hope those people don't drive. They would never hear a siren or horn.

@bruce Maybe report them first?

The Fediverse shouldn't exclude servers for having moderators that aren't omniscient.

Blocking servers and defederation should be saved for when it's proved that the moderators of a server *choose to allow* bad content, not when they just don't act quick enough to prevent users from seeing it.
