It blows my mind that, with all the scientific advancements humans have achieved, the best idea we have for keeping our teeth clean is "idk, have someone pick at them with metal spikes a couple times a year"

"If we raise taxes on the extremely wealthy, they will leave"

Good. These people are parasites. They became billionaires by paying minimum wage, and relying on government programs to prop up their businesses. They pay little to no tax.

This is your reminder that potatoes are an objectively superior currency to Bitcoin or any other crypto

A Potato:
- Shows inherent proof of work
- Hacker proof
- Valid in any country
- Works in any century
- Accessible at any tech level
- Delicious and nutritious
- Is also a battery
- Can be turned to rocket fuel (AKA vodka)

Do bomb defusal technicians peel soft-boiled eggs to keep their dexterity up?

Built a hydroponic setup a while back, but I haven't been able to use it yet because I couldn't get sprouts to grow properly.

The latest set seem to be doing okay, though.

(Don't worry, they're just red bell pepper plants.)

Look, kids, this is a very important message, so pay close attention:

Do not, under any circumstances, money to a candidate, ever.

If you do, the will be relentless, and it will be unending. It will be unfocused, and it will contain pointless photos. You will receive spam for candidates you've never heard of in states you've never been to. They'll blame immigrants for everything and have a Spanish translation on the back. They'll talk about saving the environment on plastic-covered paper postcards carried by gasoline to every house, just to be thrown in the trash. These messages will secretly multiply in your inbox, breeding in a pit of endlessly focus-tested-to-hell language soup, until you'll no longer be able to find the real messages from real people among the deluge.

Today alone, I've received 8 text messages asking for political donations, only two of which came from a candidate in my state. All for an election that's 16 fucking months away.

Donating to political candidates is schmuck bait, no matter the candidate. Learn from my mistakes.

@ottocrat So, pretty much the exact opposite of how logic or common sense would dictate?

@ottocrat At first, I was like, "why?", but then I realized you weren't referring to WFH and :mind_blown:

Yeah, that sounds like it sucks.

Interviews, emails, audio recordings of campus meetings.. contradict message there is widespread teacher support for his program… teachers were threatened with losing their jobs if their campus did not join the program. texasobserver.org/teachers-str

He still can't figure out the difference between moderation and censorship 🤦‍♂️

Steve Herman
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) has sent a letter to #Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg raising questions about potential censorship on...

@leclau @maxkennerly Competent employees? Office space that's actually paid for? Someone competent to run the show? All unnecessary luxuries for a multi-billion dollar tech company.

@maxkennerly "before we have the luxury of anything else" he says, as he chooses to hemorrhage additional money to paying thousands to some of the most despicable users of his free platform.

I made a robot that runs on physics, moving only through the application of force and torque. It's a bit top-heavy and wobbly when its turret is deployed though. Maybe I need to add training wheels...

@freemo @realcaseyrollins Is the repo open source? I might putter around in there if I have some free time...

@peterdrake It shouldn't, so long as unity's implementation of (Singleton == this) has its own null-check first, which it probably does, but I'm not sure.
So, the situation I'm concerned about would be that Singleton references a destroyed object. Running (Singleton == null) checks if it's null *or* destroyed, which prevents the second check. But I don't know if (Singleton == this) will also break out if it's null or if it will try to run a comparison op between a live object and a destroyed one (which would throw an error).

In other words, it's mostly just me being paranoid and defensively coding.

The endless spectacle of Twitter's crash and burn

"Sir, advertisers are fleeing our platform like the plague, we've got crushing debt payments we can't afford, nobody here knows what all those semicolons are for in the code, and the sheriff is in the lobby right now saying we're being evicted for not paying rent! What do we do?!?"
